Richie came about in the most peculiar way a plushie can. She was not fashioned in a factory, nor brought to life with magical properties. She was simply born.

And unlike most plushies who find themselves suddenly alive, she lived a normal childhood- filled with toys, friends, scrapes, and bruises. Of course she was teased in school- as being a plushie is quite different and people didn’t know how to deal with her peculiarities. Early in the childhood she discovered her love of drawing. It helped her deal with the troubles she faced and soon her talent manifested. She was quite talented and could draw nearly anything thrown her way. When she was sixteen, she discovered the beauty of tattoos and set her mind to learning the art of ink. She was a natural at it and, after tattooing others, longed for the needle on her own skin. When she was eighteen she made up her mind to ink herself. She pressed the needle to the cloth of her arm, expecting a clean line to appear. But instead her fabric-like skin tore, revealing a puff of stuffing.

Alarmed, she dropped the machine and quickly stitched up her ripped arm. Too scared to try again, she put away her tools. Six months passed before she was willing to try it again. She took in a deep breath and began inking herself; but again, the cloth ripped.Frustrated, she tried again and again to mark herself with ink, but every time she would tear and have to stitch herself back together. Soon her left arm was covered in colorful thread, crisscrossing along the curve of her bicep. She studied it carefully, admiring the way the colors overlapped and almost created a design.

A thought came to her. She put her tattoo machine away and ran to her sewing kit. She chose thread of red, green, white and black; and threaded her needle. For hours she sat stitching at her arm. Soon a rosebud burst across her cloth, then leaves. A black swirl of intertwining lines cascaded down her arm and into another rose. She pulled the last knot tight and examined her work. She had a beautiful design not inked, but embroidered into the fabric of her arm. It was beautiful and alive, dancing across her skin.

Richie still loves tattooing others. But for herself, she will only ever use colorful thread to mark her body.
