Hello to the new owner of this pet!
I'm Narelle, the previous owner. I hope you take good care of Iapetus! Here are a few things you may want to know:
I adopted Iapetus June 24th, 2010 as a Sun Archan.
On June 25th, 2010, Iapetus became a Reborn Rreign.
I recommend using a Sex Berry to make him male, and match the myth.
(Iapetus in Greek Mythology was a Titan, son of Ouranos and Gaia, father to Prometheus, Atlas, Epimetheus, and Menoetius. Because of his sons, he is seen as an ancestor to mankind. He was the Titan of Mortal Life, while his son, Prometheus, was the creator of mankind. When Zeus overthrew Chronus, his punishment for siding with the titan lord was to also be thrown into Tartarus. And of course, Saturn's moon, Iapetus, was named after the Titan.)
Now what with us having this pet as a connection of sorts, I'd be happy to talk or help you out, should the need arise.
~Narelle

APP OF AWESOME:
There isn't really much to say but how much I love the name of this pet. For the last several months I've been going through a lot of the more popular Greek mythology names and filled my last open pet slot with Thanatos.. I can see Iapetus is a more post-apocalyptic setting, a creature created in a lab that was meant to be an attempt at recreating creatures in order to give animals an edge at living in a harsher environment by infusing their organic bodies with inorganic objects, such as metal. Iapetus, to me (in this environment), would be a mistake, a giant machine like dragon that gained the ability for speech and thought along the way, leaving behind the lab that created him. Because of the immense knowledge accidentally stored inside of him, he's a tinkerer that can create creatures like himself, though in generally smaller forms because of the amount of material he has at his disposal. He's large, and though he moves easily his body generally makes noises that he can't get rid of since he's mostly metal. And while he supposedly can fly he's too afraid because of his mass, unsure if he would rip his wings or not.

Basically what I would do is get him a profile (hopefully) and some art if I can ponder up his looks and get someone willing to replicate the intricacy I have in mind. An overlay would be nice, but I'm not sure if I would be able to get one sometime soon. As for color and species, I would leave him the way he is unless a decent looking steamworks dragon crops up, and then I would most likely change him to better fit the idea I have for him. At this point I already have a few things I could throw into his TC, including a set of wyrmgear horns, and maybe a few 'steampunk' looking minions.

Many years ago they abandoned him, gifted him a desolate planet. All that was left here were crumbling buildings and memories. It had been ages since the people who had created him had gone, most succumbing to a plague, the rest taking to the skies to find a planet that didn't hold such sickness, a sickness that turned lush forests and lakes into deserts and wastes of cracked clay, making skeletons of any who caught it. That was what they left him with.

Pebbles slip from the ceiling, clattering against the floor. The noise is sharp compared to the hum of the holoscreens he sits in front of every day, studying and remembering a civilization long lost. He's read through them many times, but he is a creature of flesh and mechanism, a bionic created to withstand time. They created him for the sole purpose of keeping their traditions, culture, and history safe. If it lives, they can live again in his memory, and in the memory of those who may one day find this place.

A rumble from the sky, specs descending, pinpoints of silver against the sun at first, growing larger as they moved closer. The earth shakes as the ships land, ruffling his feathers. He lifted a wing, covering his eyes as debris flew. A door opened, the light was blinding. For the first time in an immeasurable amount of years, the sound of boots crunching on road filled the air. Words he didn't recognize came from their mouths, a kind hand extended, hesitating before fingers gently threaded through his feathers.

Humanity found the planet they named Atlas in the year 2379. Running low on fuel and sustenance, they had landed on an alien planet to be greeted by a creature. Half organic, half machine, left to guard the knowledge of their extinct race. The creature they named Iapetus - the mythical Titan whose sons were considered to be the ancestors of humanity. Iapetus gave them the knowledge to cultivate the planet that had survived a plague. Human and Titan remained, learning from each other.
