Gin is tall, narrow, and bony, but not underweight. He has lavender hair and light blue-green eyes which you will never see, combined with a heavy use of sarcasm and mocking politeness. At first meeting Ichimaru Gin, you are unlikely to notice anything except his perpetual smile. Cheerfully sadistic is the operative phrase. He knows he's a little twisted, not what you'd call a nice person, and generally he's very content with that. He does not really bother to hide it from other people at all, and if they haven't noticed then it is most likely because he hasn't spent enough time around them for the weight of his constant smile to fully sink in. Rukia once described the feeling of being around him and listening to him talk as like having snakes coil around your throat.

However, this isn't to say that no one likes Ichimaru; in fact, he was apparently quite popular with the men under his command in the 3rd Division. An easy-going kind of guy, and pleasant at least on the surface. He has never asked more from a subordinate (or a prisoner) than he felt they were capable of. This, plus his obvious power on the battlefield, is probably enough to explain his men's preference for him over his much-less-assuming lieutenant. But nor does Ichimaru have any real friends. Except for... well one special girl. It's been a long time, though; who knows how she feels about him, at this point...

Ichimaru can be charming, and his creepiness certainly ranges from subtle to overt, but the newborn Arrancar Wonderweiss did not take to him at all, even though he was nothing but friendly to the kid, which makes some think that animals and small children most likely dislike Ichimaru instinctively, regardless of his behavior.

Ichimaru is also one of the sneakiest, laziest fighters in existence. No one has ever seen him do more than flick his wrist in a fight. His sword is representative of this: as a wakizashi, it's basically the samurai equivalent of a police officer's ankle-holstered pistol, but it's Ichimaru's main weapon rather than any kind of backup, and he still only draws it about as often as the officer does the ankle-holstered gun.
