The Beginning of the Story of Raym Stark
Raym Stark had never been below the Walkways all his life and he'd lived a long enough life. He wasn't unusual in that, though. No one who lived in the Upper Levels of GNyma ever went to the Slums... at least, no one had and ever came back. It was well known to be a dangerous place, full of people -if they could be called that- who were all criminals and had the moral fiber of a roll of a cockroach. They were horrendous caricatures of what humans should be and deserved to live their lives under the feet of all those who lived above the 80th floor. That was what Stark had been brought up to believe, but his beliefs had been given a forced change when he found himself abandoned in the Slums which he and everyone else who lived above the Walkways had been taught to be disgusted by and forget except when convenient.
It all began in the middle of the year 2347. First, it should be noted that Stark was a special man. He was able to speak mind to mind. A telepath. There were few who could do this. Very few. These people who could began to form together into a secret organization. In the entirety of GNyma's Upper Level population, which was about ten million, there were about a thousand in the organization, known normally as the Organization-With-no-Name (OWN), which was most of the telepaths, but the numbers of telepaths throughout the city were slowly growing.
Second thing of note: the members of the organization were not the most ethical of people. Stark was never high enough in the organization to actually be told of their plans, but one day, while helping with a particularly messy fundraiser involving children and ice cream (OWN operated under the guise of a non-profit organization for the conservation of wildlife around the world- most members were told this was done merely to hide them from people who would be prejudiced, which was partially true) and Stark came across odd folders when he entered a door he thought to be a way to the kitchen.
Stark knew who's office he was in as soon as he entered the room, partly by the little plaque that said "Zenger", the guy's last name. It was known he was a little absent-minded at times, which probably explained why he had left folders that probably should have been locked up in plain sight on top of his desk. Stark, curious, did glance through the folders, revealing things that he decided he would quickly forget about. Plans OWN had to own the city through blackmail and the one or two telekinetics in the organization. Plans that made Stark question whether he wanted to be in OWN, but he decided not to do anything about them.
However, later that night, Stark was cornered by Zenger, confronting him about what he'd been doing in his office and if he'd found anything interesting. Stark tried to lie, but Zenger was a stronger telepath than he and was able to pry it out of his head, leaving Stark with a migraine that he quickly didn't feel as a force hit his head and he fell unconscious.
When Stark awoke, it was to a head that felt like it was two seconds from exploding, a man squatting in front of him with a knife pointed between his eyes and a clear view behind that man of an alien world without Sunlight below the Walkways. This was when Stark's adventures in the Slums of GNyma (Sognyma) began.
