Leonard Horatio McCoy was born on Earth in 2227. He attended the University of Mississippi on Earth and he often played practical jokes upon the other medical students. While he was attending medical school he met Emony Dax, who was at the time, the host of the Dax symbiont while she was judging a gymnastics competition on Earth. She told him that "he had the hands of a surgeon." ;)
After a difficult divorce from his wife, he joined Starfleet and became a friend to James T. Kirk, who nick named him "Bones." He had one daughter, named Joanna, whom he did not see often after he joined Starfleet.
When he achieved the rank of Lieutenant Commander he was stationed for a short period on Capella IV, and afterwords joined his friend Jim Kirk on the Enterprise as the CMO.
