Long Ago...

In a land far far away, there was once a kind king and queen who longed to have a child. However, the queen found out from a doctor that she could not bear children which devastated her and the king. After receiving this news, she began to become introverted and never left the castle, unlike before where she would visit the village everyday. This made the king very worried, but a few weeks later a brilliant plan came to mind. He told his wife of his plan, and she wholeheartedly agreed. They were going to interview pregnant women who would not be able to look after their baby and if they found the perfect woman, they would pay her handsomely for the baby and adopt it. He put up posters up in the nearby village which had all the details of their plan on it.

Many women came, but none seemed right. They were either too malnourished, on drugs, alcoholics or were mean and cruel. The king and queen wanted their child to be healthy and strong. Since their plan did not work, the queen had another idea. She decided to go looking around at all the orphanges, looking for a young girl to adopt. All the orphanages heard of this plan and also heard that the orphange whose child was adopted would be paid a large amount of money, so they had to quickly clean up their buildings and make sure the children were presentable. The queen looked at every orphaned child and did not feel as if any of them were right for her.

The queen was quickly losing hope. She went back home and gave her husband the bad news. He too was disappointed so they both decided to go on a walk to a beautiful, nearby meadow to clear their heads. When they got there, they saw that there were some deer grazing in the opening so the queen and king sat down on a log. They sat there for hours, just relaxing in the afternoon sun. All of a sudden, the queen noticed a small child, who was prancing through the grass and flowers towards the deer. She reached out a hand and put it near the deer. The deer flocked around her, sniffing and licking her, a cheeky little foal was pushing the other deer out the way so he would get some attention too. It was as if the deer and the child knew each other. "Deew!" the child shouted, which showed them how young the child was. They looked at each other and the same thought went through their heads, so they both got up and walked slowly towards her.

"Are you having fun?" whispered the queen kindly. The small child, who was a girl, nodded her head and smiled brightly at them. "Where are your parents?" the king asked politely. The little girl's mouth moved to form a frown and her shoulders slumped down. "Would you like to come and live with us?" the king and queen both said at the same time. The child's face lit up and she nodded her head as fast as lightning, showing how eager she was. "What's your name?" the king asked. The girl looked up at the sky, the sun making her short blond hair glow, her hair dancing in the breeze, and then she answered,
