Send us a blindfold, send us a blade
Tell the survivors help is on the way
I was a blindfold, never complained
All the survivors singing in the rain
I was the one with the world at my feet
Goddess of battle, leave it up to me

What it is and where it stops nobody knows
You gave me a life I never chose
I wanna leave but the world won't let me go
Wanna leave but the world won't let me go

I opened my journal, flipping past the first 23 pages. 23 pages of failure upon failure. I sighed. This wasn't proving to be an easy fix.

I landed on the 24th page and pulled out my pen. 'Attempt #24' I scrawled across the top in my childish handwriting. That's one thing they had never been able to.. Nevermind that. Focus.

'Something different this time', I had thought after #23 failed. 'Something simple. Primitive even. The others were too elaborate. Simple is the key here.' I wrote down the details of the experiment and placed the pen in the spine of the journal, like always.Journal entry complete, for now, I retreated to the next room to get ready. Camcorder, check. Fresh tape, check. I shrugged into my usual outfit; black jeans, white t-shirt, chucks. Plain. Perfect.

Looking into the mirror, I thought my face looked worried. Would it work? Could I ever be successful?I sighed, and pulled my hair back into a ponytail.I had to keep going. The very fate of the world rested on my work. If I succeeded... the world would be a very different place indeed.

Gear packed, I locked up the apartment and started up the stairs. One, two, three, four.. I lost track. I thought it might have been close to 30 flights when I finally reached the door labeled 'Roof'.The door was locked, but that proved to be no problem for me. I quickly made my way out between the strange shapes on the top of the building. Was it a good time for this? Not too many people around this late. Best chance of avoiding scrutiny. 'Don't second guess yourself,' I admonished.

I set up my camera appropriately and pressed record. 'Experiment #24. July 5th, 2501.' I turned my back on the camera and walked to the edge of the building. I peeked over. No bystanders, no traffic. All safe. I climbed up onto the ledge. My knees felt surprisingly weak. You'd think they would have fixed that problem.. Nevermind.

'Deep breath' I said to myself, 'and go.'
I inhaled.
And threw my body off the top of the building.
