You like things. The things that eventually collect dust over time, with some items fading faster than others. Things break. You break. You have never seen anyone else break but people are stateful too: they break, malfunction; can be stolen, lost; need to be carried around. Things, excluding people, is what you chose to like, but even possessions backfire sometimes. But possessions can't break you, and that is why they are safer than people.

They say love is a treasure greater than money. So if money is something to be invested, what does that say about love? You must love something. You must invest it in something. Non human things are the smart investment, you will love them and be warmed by your own obsession. A self consuming flame; alone, self sufficient, mediocre.

You once made the gamble, that after too many years of penny stocks and no capital, to put your meager savings into an IPO. An unwise choice that ended in bankruptcy. You should have made the safer choice. You were greedy. You lost the gamble. You must resist temptation. Their ups and downs become yours, you were two creatures chained to each other in turbulent waves. Or rather, you were the fool who got played. Yet even beyond that, there is so much loss, so much hate two can create; the price of attachment. You were attached and you were defeated for it.

And yet you must give up parts of yourself to be happy. You must lose yourself. You must give. You must invest. You must be attached. This is the double edged sword and you are trying to work with it, trying to make the safe investment (and if not things, there are concepts to be attached to but you were always the doubter, always the faithless, to go that route)

But you realize now, that you will never be better than mediocre as long as you play it safe.
