Name: Kolden
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Orientation: Asexual
Status: Single
Physical Appearance: Lighter than the normal shade of blonde, Kolden looks as though he bleaches his short, messy hair. Yet the color is his natural shade and compliments the young teen's dark grey eyes. Due to his confinement within the walls of the mental hospital, Kolden maintains a pale complexion year round. Shorter than most his age, the boy is often mistaken to be younger than he actually is. Some might consider him cute because of the suspicious scowl that is often planted on his face. He lacks a real fashion sense and dresses himself in whatever he picks up, sometimes it will come together in a decent outfit but other days he looks as though he just discovered clothing.
Personality Traits: As his chart lists, Kolden is a paranoid schizophrenic and as such he is always cautious of the people around him. When he isn't on his medication his symptoms are much worse, hallucinations and delusions bother him to no end. However life in the mental institution has made life more tolerable for the boy. He still has major trust issues but isn't troubled by sights of monsters or loud voices in his head. Since he has only ever been close to one person, his older brother Kaisen, it is hard to judge how he would act around someone else. When he was on the streets with Kaisen, Kolden had only his kin to look for comfort. In those days his behavior was uncontrollable and his paranoia severe. After being attacked with the apparent intent to kill, Kaisen was forced to leave his little brother behind. He alerted the police, who found the frightened child and put him in the care of the city's mental hospital. Kolden has been in their expert care ever since. At first the change was a lot to handle for him. He had already been abandoned once in his life by his parents and now his brother had left him. Kolden looked to Kaisen for support and protection yet now he was on his own in an unfamiliar place. With the combination of medication and time, he eventually grew used to his new environment though still hopes that his brother will come for him some day. He knows that it is his fault that Kaisen abandoned him and would like to show his brother how he has improved. Medication has abated the severity of his unpredictable behavior, yet he is still the same but at a more restrained level. The occasional bout of violence and mood swings are still present, but the young teen could use a friend even if he doesn't think so.

Kolden is sick, although not in the physical sense. This child is so far gone in the mind that there is no possible hope of returning to normalcy. In medical terms his condition is labeled paranoid schizophrenia, one of the worst mental diseases one can suffer. As the name of the disorder states, Kolden is paranoid of everything and everyone around him to an extremely unhealthy point. In his eyes, anything from a blade of grass to a harmless puppy is out to get him. Severe delusions of reality cause the young man almost ceaseless anxiety. Eyes alert and always on edge, he never has a moment of relaxation. Kolden doesn't know the meaning of the word trust, which causes him to be very detached and cold toward the other children in the ward. In his mind, among the chaos of voices, Kolden thinks that those around him are trying to rob him of what little happiness he has. Yes, despite his never-ending unease, Kolden has short lapses of happiness, in which is he completely alone and poking around for some random object that catches his eye. He has never had any real possessions of value, so he takes interest in what most view as junk. If someone does attempt to bother him, Kolden's first reaction will be to flee but if the nuisance persists he'll resort to violence. The boy likes his privacy and tries his best to keep it. Since his collection of random and generally useless items is all that Kolden has, he is very protective of the objects. If someone happens to try to take one of them from him, he'll instantly try to get it back at whatever the cost. He owns nothing of value and most find his collection disgusting, for he hoards anything from dead animals to moldy food. Kolden was raised in squalor on the streets of a filthy city so nothing really bothers him. He's most accustomed to trash rather than cleanliness. His small room in the pediatric ward is scattered with random bits of garbage that he refuses to relinquish to the cleaning staff. Because his drastic behavior is dampened by the medication he takes daily, Kolden is allowed to roam freely at the designated times during the day. Despite the large dosage he consumes regularly, nothing is strong enough to completely rid him of his paranoia and irrational fears. The medicine helps with the delusions, however. If he rejects the treatment, however, he is likely to attack someone because the voices told him to or he imagined that the unfortunate soul was trying to get him. Such occurrences are kept to a minimum, however, for with cases such as his the nurses make sure that he takes his medicine.
In the terms of the other children, Kolden tends to keep to himself. During free time, he can be spotted alone in a corner playing with his tattered stuffed animal or the dead fly he always keeps nearby (usually in his pocket). The little pest was the first friend he encountered in the hospital. It became trapped in his room and Kolden was terrified of the constant buzzing so he, of course, killed it. Since then he has kept it with him, preferring it dead and lifeless. A kind nurse noticed the boy's strange affinity and offered to preserve the fly for him before it began to decay. Kolden was hesitant to oblige at first but finally allowed the woman to place his pet in a small plastic tube. She then poured clear rubbing alcohol into the container and corked it tightly before returning it to him. She had cracked the stopper to have a small metal loop in the top in order to make the keepsake into a necklace. If Zippy isn't in Kolden's pocket, then he's around the child's neck, floating blissfully in the bottom of his vial. Partially because he doesn't like for people to bother his things and because the nurses don't approve of him bringing litter into the play area, Kolden tends to leave most of his goodies locked away in his room. The other children, each with their own mental ailment, tend to leave the blonde to himself and he's happy for the space. However, during his stay a few have tried to play with him without much luck. He's very stingy with his toys and usually gives the cold shoulder when spoken to. The main reason for this is the boy thinks that if he ignores something it will eventually go away. Often times this method works like a charm. Overall, Kolden is not incapable of socialization. After all, he was once very close to his older brother Kaisen. Now that the majority of his violent tendencies are kept restrained, he is more civil but it would take a lot to get beyond his untrustworthy exterior.
