Details about Raelox's birth were uncertain.
There had been rumours that the boy had fallen overboard a ship at sea and drowned, only to be rescued by the Old Gods of the ocean.
Some even suggested the boy had been an ocean sprite that hatched from the most beautiful pearl and had materialised into a young boy.
One thing was for certain though; the boy simply appeared from no where. With staring blue eyes, and dirty hands and elbows, he said his name was Raelox.

She placed the loaf in his hand. Raelox had never touched something so warm and soft before. He gently squeezed the loaf, emitting a scent incomparable to anything he had ever encountered. It was gentle. Pleasant. But what was he meant to do with it? He stared up at her.
       "You eat it," she insisted after a brief moment, making a series of motions strange with the loaf that.
Raelox didn't understand.
       "Here, look."
The woman then took another loaf from the basket and to Raelox's bewilderment, she took a bite. She the proceeded to make a series of pleasurable faces and expressions as she chewed.
       "It's good!" She grinned. "Now you try!"
Now I try? Raelox thought, reaching out and taking the loaf that she had taken a bite out of. This made the women giggle.
       "Oh, checking for poison, I see," she laughed.
Raelox took a small, cautious bite. Something inside of him stirred. The taste was so gentle. So soft. He closed his eyes and smiled.

       "So strange," the woman said quietly, watching Raelox take his second and third bite.
       "Should we call the doc?"
       "NO," the man yelled from the next room over, Raelox winced but continued eating.
       "Apologies, no thank-you," the man corrected himself, returning to the room.
He approached Raelox and shone a small light in both eyes. Raelox was too enthralled with the loaves of bread to object.
       "You don't really think Noxville-" the woman sounded desperate.
       "Look, all I know is that a boy simply appeared out of no where. He does not speak. He cannot give or not give consent to anything that man wants to experiment with."
The man looked over at the woman, now biting her lip as if restraining herself not to argue.
       "You've seen his wings... Do you really think he earned them?"
There was a long drawn out pause. Raelox watched the woman look solemnly into her lap. Raelox didn't understand what was going on, but could sense a certain heaviness in the room that wasn't there before. Or maybe it was the stress of only having a single loaf left.
       "He'll stay here for now," the man finally sighed, "I'm sure the experiment children will come around and keep him company."
Whatever he had said made the woman smile.
       "Besides, I think a more natural medication would sit better with him - if he so needs it."

Raelox was down to his last piece of bread. Every bite made him whimper. Was this the end? Would he ever be able to experience something as beautiful ever again?
       "He likes the bread," the woman said softly, standing up with the man.
       "Who doesn't."
       "I better get more."
       "And probably something with some more green, perhaps."
       "Oh, Dee, you never change."
The man and the woman stepped out of the room together, quietly sharing words between each other, as Raelox finished his last piece of bread. He felt warm and full, which was the first time in a long time. He was happy. Raelox looked around the room at all the small plants and flowers the man kept. He had never seen such flora in the oceans. Raelox curled up and closed his eyes. He felt safe.
