Syll

Outcasted / Special / Dead

"You know what, Lilim? I'm really glad I met you." Syll's voice was soft, almost pathetic as he spoke. The sounds of crickets filled the summer night air, followed by the sounds of animals; most likely deer in the wooded brush way behind them.
"I feel so pathetic without you. I don't .. think I could even get by without you around. You're my only true friend. Everyone else in this village hates me. " He admitted shamefully. Lilim only tilted her head with concern.
"But why, Syll? You're always so bright, and funny when i'm around you ... "
"I guess.. I guess it's because i'm different than they are. For one, I can see spirits, and angels. I can.. also tell when someone is about to die. "
" I .. see ..." Lilim looked at the moon's reflection on the pond below.
"Sure, I guess I told someone who was shipping out that they were going to die ... But I only wanted to warn them. It just feels that everyone's trying to avoid me now. I'm not trying to cause trouble for anyone- honestly i'm not." Syll paused for a moment and took a deep breath.
" But if I wasn't this way, I wouldn't be able to see you, Lilim. You're my only saving grace in this world."
"Don't worry, Syll. If something is troubling you-- no matter what it is! Please tell me. I'm going to try everything in my power to make you happy!"
Syll smiled.
"Thank you, Lilim."
Syll paused for a moment, watching ripples as they appeared over the water on the moon's reflection.
"Do you think i'll ever be happy?"
"Of course! You've got no choice but to be happy!"
Syll raised an eyebrow slightly.
"Oh?"
"that's right! Because your happiness is my happiness. "
"Your happiness ...?"
"That's right. I'm an angel. Making sure that you are happy in the mortal realm is my job and the most amazing thing in this world."
"Did you say... mortal realm?"
"That's right. You see? Your happiness is MY happiness!" Lilim extended her hand and placed it on his. But then the reality set in as her hand passed through him. No matter what she did, she always passed right through him.
'We're just too different.. how can we even really be friends?'
"Lilim... Would you.. really, truly be happy, if I was happy here?" Syll asked quietly.
"Of course I would!"
Syll smiled, though he somehow knew deep down, despite his wishes, that all of this; their friendship, his life, it was meaningless. But still ...
" Alright then. I'll try to be.. Just for you ..."

'If it'll make her happy, then I've at least, got to try. If not for me, but for her sake ... '
