Camp has been phenomenal this year. In just a few short days, the fun and excitement will be over. With a sigh you realize that all you had to show for being here is a gooey mess that once was a popsicle stick recreation of Delphi Beach Carnival. Thanks to Euclid and his portable Zapper, your sculpture is a steaming heap of gelatinous goo.

Who brings a functioning ray gun to Camp Veta? Sure, he had it on the science table with a warning sign stating, "Do Not Touch". But seriously, who could resist picking it up? Thankfully, you had aimed it at your artwork rather than another camper, but it didn't diminish the fact that your handcrafted souvenir was gone.

Suppressing the tears that threaten to escape, you wander to the shore of Lake Veta and begin to skip stones across the water's surface. One lucky throw nets you seven hops, when suddenly a green and hazel head breaks through the water. You stumble backwards as the head reveals the long neck of a swampie. This animal is not somebody's lost pet, but rather a wild and unpredictable being. As it approaches you note the opalescent designs coating its flanks. A hydrus swampie! They are so volatile, especially if Merana had transformed this one herself.

The swampie crooks its neck in a beckoning motion. It appears as if the aquatic creature wants you to join her for a ride. Surprised, you silently weigh your options. Ride with the swampie into the lake, or stay in the safety of camp and continue to stew in self pity? Sensing your hesitation, the swampie gently nudges your hands so they fall onto her kelp mane. Securing your grip, you cautiously climb aboard. She begins to swim along the placid lake's surface, towards deeper water. This is amazing! You tilt your head back and let out an exuberant yell. You hear her chortle, and she heads towards the opposite shoreline. The pearly scales along her sides glow and as the light intensifies, it surrounds you, coating your skin with an iridescent sheen. Just as the light appears, you notice that the swampie is no longer swimming along the lake's surface. You both have submerged and somehow this soft magical luster along your skin is allowing you to breathe! Incredible!

Your new aquatic friend begins to take you toward an underwater grotto. Trusting her, you continue to hold onto her algae plumes and admire your mount's speed and grace. A shimmering pool of light forms within the cave. What could that be? You're going to find out because the swampie glides towards it with increasing speed. Bracing yourself for an impact along the far wall, you close your eyes. We should have hit by now, so you risk a peek. Sunlight forces you to blink repeatedly. You're on the surface. How did that happen? Reluctantly you release your death grip on the swampie's verdant locks. Thanking her for the adventure, you give her a grateful hug. She trumpets happily and dives under the surface once more, leaving you alone on the beach. You wade toward the sandy shore, looking for signs of Camp Veta, town, or other notable landmarks. Strangely, this appears to be a coastal shore rather than Veta Lake. You walk inland and discover a tower. As you approach, you recognize it as the residence of the esteemed Oracle. How can that be? She's halfway around the world. The swampie was fast, but it was impossible for her to have carried you that great distance!

You open the great tower's door and walk through. "Why there you are!" the Oracle exclaims. "I had begun to think you had forgotten all about my quest. Now, kindly hand it over and I shall reward you greatly."

Confused, you ask, "What item?"

"The popsicle stick! I have been waiting for it all summer long! If you don't have it yet, than please hop to it, and find me one!"

Exasperated, you search your pockets, hoping that you may have misplaced a burnt fragment from your craft project. You discover an undamaged popsicle stick, and gleefully hand it over to the wise woman.

"Thank you for bringing me back my item! To thank you, here is a reward." She hands you some currency and mentions something about your favorite pet becoming stronger.

Thanking her in return, you look at her and ask if she knows how you can return to Veta Lake.

"Oh yes dear, all you need to do is touch this magical map I have. You will be transported back to where you belong, to finish up camp with a smile on your face instead of that gloomy cloud of despair you were in earlier."

Wait, she knew you were sad?

"Sometimes we have a great adventure when we least expect it, and when we most need it! Off you go!"

Smiling, you touch Veta Lake's map marker, and feel yourself transported back to camp.
