Eighteen years old when your life suddenly crashes and burns around you, just because your luck finally ran out.

He's heard the story of his namesake a million times before. His parents tell him to never tell a soul, to never admit to anyone that he's blessed with luck. That weeks before he was born they prayed and prayed for him to have a fortuitous life, to have what he would one day deem the perfect life. And it was there, at a shrine in rural Japan, that a black cat suddenly sat between them with inquisitive golden eyes, and stayed with them until they presented their offering, the only thing that could afford.

A single golden coin.

And so Kuro is named after that beautiful black cat, the one that granted him the blessing of pure luck. And it's all true. He's the first baby born on New Years day, and his parents receive money for it. He randomly bubbles things in during tests and somehow gets the highest scores. Those same test scores get him into a prestigious high school, where they tell him his tuition is fully paid off with scholarships. He's singing to himself at the train station when he's discovered by a talent agent and is immediately contracted to be in a JPOP boyband.

With the launch of a promising career, living alone in his very own condo in the middle of Tokyo, and on the evening after celebrating his eighteenth birthday, he can't help but declare the words that change his life forever.
