You walk across a sheet of calm water, your footsteps hardly making even a ripple on its surface. The stars twinkle and shiver in the great expanse of darkened sky, reflected in the water like tiny diamonds. You don’t think it’s strange that you’re walking across water, but then again your mind is fuzzy, and everything seems surreal like a dream; too strange for you to be awake, certainly. As you’re looking up at the great dome of stars and space a strange creature you have only just noticed is approaching you. Its yellow eyes study you calculatingly and a smile seems to linger on its maw, but there’s no way to be sure. Such intricate designs and patterns of gold are traced on its fur, and you marvel at the way it resembles the sky right above you.
Its bushy tail swigs strangely, the stars beyond it on the horizon seeming to move wish its swishing motions. You are compelled to speak to this thing, this creature, but you cannot find the words, and your vocal cords don’t seem to be cooperating anyhow. It comes within arms’ reach, sticking its black nose out proudly and squinting playfully, large ears twitching. Then it tilts its head to the sky and lets out a long, lonesome cry, stamping a cobalt hoof soundlessly. It sounds muffled to you yet it shakes you to the core and you back up slowly, turn, and you start running as fast as you can. Simultaneously, the water’s surface gives way, and you are swallowed into its icy, cold belly. Your muscles go limp and you try to scream, but the water fills your lungs, only the longing sounds of the strange creature echoing in your ears.
