Brazos

Their childhood was a vague memory, faceless shapes and distant words; who their parents were, might be, are a distant memory that always seems to be just out of reach. When Brazos came of an age capable of fending for themselves the parental figures vanished completely, leaving only a crumpled note: My dear child, my Brazos. You are named of the mighty river, vast and wandering. Your path in life, much like ours, is much like your namesake. This will make sense in due time. Always remember to hide yourself, until your presence is required. They kept this note shoved deep in a bag, with their meager life belongings; it's message always lingering in thought as the years ticked by. Years spent wandering, searching, for the meaning and their purpose in this realm of man.

The years turned into decades, spent walking; exploring this human realm and its unforgiving lands. There was beauty in it, the vast solitude the wilderness, though it could be equally cruel to any that took it for granted. Countless tragedies had been witnessed, over the years, many too late to help; many unhelped due to the fear of being seen for what they were by the human eye.

Eventually, piece by piece, Brazos understood the tattered old notes message. They learned the glamour to guise themselves as just an old tabby cat, just a rattler who's rock at been disturbed, and eventually a normal looking human who just so happened to be hiking in the wilderness at the right time.

They acquired an old run down hotel; the mechanics behind it they’d never tell, especially since it’s far off the beaten path in a location that no establishment should have ever been built, but all the same it was there when lost souls needed it the most. A shabby old place, with a flickering sign; the office filled with shelves of items covered in dust and appearing to be from countless different eras. Items that were lost, just like the souls who found their way there; a little rusted bell jingling, alerting the haunting blue eyes of an odd young being who appeared just as out of place as the hotel.
