Saede is a young girl living in a dystopian future - not so far away from the times we live in now.

Man's greedy exploitation of the Earth's resources and short-sightedness have resulted in a future where fossil fuel stores are close to depleted, many ecosystems have been destroyed, and a combination of deforestation and excessive gas emissions have created an atmosphere that is toxic to most living things.

Within this new World there remains a distinct 'class' division, with many of the wealthy still pursuing the last vestiges of fossil fuels. They, of course, are in possession of equipment enabling them to live in comfort within the new atmosphere, whereas the poor are left to cope with the gradual poisoning that comes from breathing the air.

However, some individuals have been born with the ability to thrive within the new atmosphere (at least physically). These anomalies could be considered the lucky ones. However, they are subject to hatred from those who consider them unnatural or are jealous of them, fascination from the scientists who seek to study them, and also have to live out their long lives watching those around them suffer.

Saede is one of these beings. She is a resident of Libya, sixteen years old and the descendant of a long tribal lineage. Her tribe, who have always lived in harmony with nature, are now suffering the effects brought on by the industrialised World. Particularly so, as one of the last oil reserves has recently been discovered in their area. Despite her parents everyday suffering and a brother who is a 'mutant' because of the effects of poisoning on her mother's body, she is a pure spirit and tries to uphold the values of her tribe even in the face of such onslaught.

Physically she is tall, lean and beautiful, with dark skin, large liquid eyes and the tribal Giraffe markings common among her people.
