...Kosjenka picks the field's wildest and fastest horse, a young steed jet black of colour. She uses the wisps of her hair to urge him on and he takes her furiously across valleys and slopes, along forests and rivers, past golden fields and dove-white villages. Many leagues they cross and many horizons they follow.
Like wildfire they flee on and on, entering a lowland, windswept and seemingly boundless. Seven days and seven nights later, they reach the remains of monumental city Legen, Legen veiled in frigid cold. Kosjenka tosses her silk fairy wrap over one of the stone walls to climb it, but she loses her black steed as he gallops into the citadel, running like fury round and round it, reaching his old days before finding a passage out.
The young fairy continues on along the lifeless passages of the wondrous ancient city, until she turns the highest wall and happens upon a sleeping giant, all but petrified himself. This was Regoč and all he ever did was count the age old stones of Legen. A thousand years and he has not stopped counting, making thirty walls and five city gates. Whether this was for the reason of his supine ingenuity or the fact that he indeed slept for the most part, we do not know. Roused by Kosjenka voicing her concern that he was not being terribly snug in the piercing cold, he gives out a mellow laugh, explaining that the Sun would eventually rise.
Rising, he upsets the hoar frost gathered on his beard, hair and shoulders, sending a shower of tiny crystals down on Kosjenka. Regoč thus places her on his shoulder and to his ear she tells about her name and her ramblings. Seeing how little sense there was for this man-mountain in spending his days aimlessly counting stones, Kosjenka sets about convincing Regoč to come explore the world with her, and they finally walk out of Legen...
