In ancient Egyptian religion, the soul had seven (eight according to some sources) parts: The Ka, the Ba, the Khaibit, the Sekhem, the Ib, and the Ren. Those parts combined formed the Akhu, or radiant being (the whole soul). The Khaibit represented the 'shadow' or 'shade' some also say it is a 'reflection'. It's not necessarily evil, but shows the parts of your personality you would never admit to having, or that you know you possess but are unwilling to accept. The Khaibit also embodies your deepest secrets, hopes, desires and wishes. The word 'Khaibit' means literally 'shadow', but it is not evil or dark unless the desires and intentions that you hide are evil. Some sources also say that the Khaibit, like the Ka (The part of the soul that is your double and your human soul), is also sentient and part of the human soul on the grounds that the term 'shade' can refer to a spirit.
