Unlikely, beautiful to behold, shining with ethereal light, was... abnormal. The entire Clan knew it. From the day of his birth the Child of Light wanted nothing but the Dark. At the age of six, when others of his kind began their studies for the Ascension, he spent all of his time studying the Descent and seeking his own way into Hell. Despite being mercilessly mocked by his clanmates and his younger (by three minutes) brother, Daemonar, he spent every moment of free time pouring over old tomes and sorting through scrolls written centuries before his own birth.
At the age of 19, one year before his majority, his parents, unable to tolerate his "odd behavior" any longer, renounced his birth. Shock rippled through the Clan as the harshest punishment allowed under Clan Law was meted out. Unlikely was stripped of his birthright and cast from the Clan's Home.
No one in living memory had ever been renounced. Dazed and heartbroken, he packed his things and made his way to the Portal of Beyond, the only way out of the Clan Home. Swallowing his fear and refusing to look back he stepped into the portal.
Three Years Later...
Idly petting Master, the Grace curled up on his lap, Unlikely studied the scroll laid before him. Sitting back with a sigh of disgust, he tossed his glasses on the desk, gently shoved Master off his lap and stood, moving to the window. He knew he should be glad that Kissal had even been able to locate the Scroll of Perdition. He wasn't even going to think about how she'd done it. But, it was yet another dead end. In three years he'd gathered many artifacts, tomes, scrolls, tablets and still nothing had come of it.
Well not exactly "nothing."
Lindale was a beautiful place that he was glad to be able to call home. Since almost three years ago to the day that he'd stepped out of the portal, he'd been the happiest he'd ever been. He'd made some amazing friends, with Kissal and Instinct being his closest. He loved that no one here found it odd that a Child of the Light was seeking the Dark. Of course they'd heard of the Clan of Light and Shadows. But no one really cared about that here. It was peaceful and he could study to his heart's content!
Smiling as his mood lightened, he walked back to the desk and just as he was about to sit, the door to his office burst open. Kissal, out of breath and grinning, sauntered across the office to lay a small sealed scroll on the desk. Gently lifting the dusty parchment, his eyes met hers across the desk and he grinned in return.
