Overlay by:SincereSnowWhen he was young, the orphaned mahar, Syene, had clearly demonstrated an ability to control and handle magic far beyond his years. Taken in by a wise and kind sorcerer to learn magic, it did not take long for the young mahar to learn many of the introductory spells and move on to higher level learning. During the years to pass, his master was recognized by the king and was balancing politics and teaching, attempting to train his young apprentice so that he might follow in his footsteps.
Seasons passed and Syene got older.
As Syene got older, relationships formed while others were destroyed for his master. Some envied the sorcerers power and feared what his apprentice was capable of. It did not take long for rumors to spread.
Some of these rumors went straight to the heart of the king. What better way to get back at a rival than to accuse him of high treason? He would be destroyed, and the apprentice as well.
However, things did not go as planned for the enemies. Not fully.
Syene's master was sentenced to death, his body to be burned alive and corpse decapitated. As for the apprentice who was now twelve, it was determined he had no control over what his master had done, even with his abilities. He was still young and had obviously been brainwashed by his master at such an impressionable age. Instead of death, the apprentice was sentenced to have his eyes gauged out to prevent him from learning more spells in order to protect the king. The mahar might decide to seek vengeance.
His eyes were gauged out of his head and then his lids sown shut. Once the terrible, painful sentence was carried out, the young mahar was cast into the streets to survive.
