MadhukarI run my fingers through my hair, watching the snowflakes slide gently from it. My hair is, and has always been, the silver shade of snow on a moonlight night, a stark contrast from my sun caressed skin. I live in serenity on this mountain, with the snowflakes whispering secrets to me as they fall, and I; taking in the beauty of the perpetual winter. Unlike the humans who live in the blazing valleys below, the ice and snow never harm me, the driving winds like a spring breeze to me. The ice and snow surround, infold, caresses, but never bring pain or hardship, I walk with no shoes and arms uncovered amongst them.I can make other creatures like me, ones who can love the snow that I can. I look deep into their eyes, deep into their hearts and I share the song of snow with them, and they become like me, they frolic in the winds and sleep in the cold with no fear. I change their hearts and bodies so they can share the beauty and stay with me on the paradise of this mountain. Some are brought to me, others come willingly, but they all learn to stay and love the songs of snow and ice as I do, as I always have.I have heard talk from the travelers, the legends of my farthest back mother of mothers, having saved the young of a creature most powerful was granted her powers, which followed all her daughters to me. Many have had gifts of enchanting song, of healing, of fire, but none before me have had the gift of the ice hand. But it’s more than that to me. My gift is more than the hand of ice, the power to make creatures who love the driving winds of winter.
