He trudges onward, the blizzard pummeling him heartlessly. It's pitch black, the darkest hour of the night. He had lost precious hours in these woods, and he now suspects that he is going in circles. He pulls his coat tighter and keeps walking.
There, up ahead! A lantern! His heart swells. With the last of his strength, he runs to the best of his ability through the knee-deep snow. The lantern stays still, and he throws himself thankfully into its light. But before he could pant his thanks, he hears a deep, gluttural sound, much like laughter. He looks up and sees a pale, glowing face attached to a massive body blacker than the night. The monster laughs again and licks its gigantic teeth, smiling at him before it attacks.
One of the most notorious monsters on Subeta, Suigintou has eluded monster hunters for eons. It lurks at the edge of the light, waiting for something foolish enough to step into its domain. No longer satisfied with eating mere shadows, it seeks greater nourishment in the souls of its victims. No normal weapon can so much as mark its hide, and its jaws can easily crush the bones of any foolish challengers. It lures its victims by creating a bright glow from its white face, resembling a lantern and providing a false sense of salvation to lost travellers. Too late they realize that the light is no more than a monster, and it welcomes them with a ravenous grin before devouring them completely, leaving no evidence.
