-----The machine towered over two boys, its slate grey metallic coating reflecting the little light produced by the twinkling stars above. It resembled a thick arch, an arch heavily invaded by spores of moss and signs of rust and decay. A broken lamp lay beside it; its jagged shards of glass strangely looked like a grin.

-----"Look at this one, Alden! It must be the oldest T-Port we've seen so far!" A blond, fair-skinned boy said, patting the giant structure.

-----With each pat, they heard the whining of gears from inside, and the rough sound of metal against metal. Alden looked around, scanning the area for any signs of movement. The forest surrounding them stood eerily in silence.

-----"Demitri, stop that," Alden told his friend. "You know we're supposed to be back in half an hour or else-"

-----"Yeah, yeah, I know," Demitri cut, raising a hand. "They'll lock us out when they close the gate and we won't have any protection... I know that."

-----"Good. Let's go." Alden turned around and started walking, leaving Demitri to catch up.

-----"You don't always have to be so serious, man," Demitri said, but Alden continued walking, ignoring his friend's comment.

-----Their footsteps faded into the distance until the forest sat in silence once more.

-----Moments later, a buzzing sound disturbed the peace, coming from the ancient teleporter. As it grew louder, bright orange light started flickering furiously from the broken lamp's lightbulb. A few more seconds passed, and the space inside the metallic arch began to turn into a swirling void of black like space from above. From this void, a sickly pale hand shot out, clawing at the air with stick-thin fingers and fingernails as sharp as a knife.

Nothing but the trees witnessed this.

-----When the world was at the brink of destruction, skilled and talented scientists invented machines called "T-Ports," more commonly known as teleporters. By rearranging the molecular or cellular structure of objects of living beings, they could be transferred from one place to another. This proved vital to their plan to send people up to live on the moon once it had been cleared for humans.

-----The project contributors and the rich received top priority; thus, this caused anger from the other citizens for not being given a chance to live on the moon. Once the people were transported to the moon, they let the teleporters self-destruct and decay over time to prevent anyone from coming to the moon.

-----Time came, however, when the teleporters began to work again, and out came mutated human beings from the old world. Because the T-Ports were broken beyond repair, anyone who came through had mutated into flesh-eating mutants wired to kill.

-----It didn't take long for more of these mutants to come and start killing the moon-dwellers. Alden, skilled with combat because of his numerous activities, formed together a small survival group to help keep their population alive. Because Alden was born on the moon, he feels no compassion for the mutants and treats them as animals rather than humans.
