The Prophecy said she would save the world. And thus, they named her Ange, for she was the angel that would lead the world to its salvation.

* * *

Ange panted heavily as she struggled to remain standing. The final boss fight had taken a great toll on her. All of her restoration potions and elixirs were used up. She was drained of mana and did not have much strength left. Her knees buckled from weakness and she supported herself against her propped sword.

She struggled to regain her breath. Traces of magic casted by the final boss lingered on her. The energy blasts were powerful and it may take a while for her to recover from her injuries.

"Cent... I did it... I finally did it..."

She fulfilled the Prophecy tasked with her since birth. The Prophecy said she would save the world from certain doom and lead the people to salvation. Ever since the people learned of her, they heralded her as The Savior. Songs were sung in her name and townspeople hailed her as she walked through the streets. She found all of the celebrations unnecessary and overwhelming.

She was not alone in her adventure. She had Cent, a white centaur by her side. Cent was the messenger who entered the town and beared news of the Prophecy and Ange's fate as the Hero. When it was time for Ange to depart on her adventure, Cent accompanied her and taught her the ways of the hero: fulfilling quests, combat tranining, and more. Ange often complained to Cent, questioning if he was sure she was the Hero of the Prophecy, to which he would laugh heartily and reply with "Of course". Cent was her only friend in her otherwise lonely journey.

She often felt insecure and miserable in her journey. It was difficult to live up to the people's expectations and carry their burdens on her shoulder. She did her best to help those in need, but her mistakes continued to haunt her. She would never forget the day the forest village was invaded. She was too inexperienced to defeat the boss behind the invasion and forced to flee for her life. The wails of the people left behind to die still rang in her nightmares. Since that day, people were skeptical whether she was the true Hero or not.

Cent tried to comfort her after that incident. "Sometimes, sacrifices have to be made for the greater good. What is more important, a tiny village of fifty people or the rest of the world? You're the Hero who will save the world. It's not your place to die with the forest village. Many more lives will be saved in the future because you fled and kept yourself alive." She remembered snapping at Cent, wanting to go back and die with the forest people. She didn't want to continue with this "Hero" business if it meant disappointing more people and letting them die.

As her journey continued, her resolve to save the people and end their suffering only strengthened. She learned from past mistakes. She did not want to disappoint anyone again. The people still depended on her, pushing all of their burdens and worries onto her shoulders. She did her best to carry them all.

And at long last, here she was at the dungeon of the final boss. It was finally defeated by her blade, and the world was saved from destruction. It was a bittersweet victory, for Cent had sacrificed his own life for her along the way.

"Go on. You are the only one who can save the world. You are the Hero, and the people's savior..." His final words still lingered.

"I... I am the people's savior..."

Despite defeating the final boss, she couldn't help but cry. She wept for herself. She wept for Cent. She wept for the lives lost that she could not save.

She realized the world was a wretched place that could not be saved. The world took everything away from her. As she fought the final boss, she found herself sympathizing with their motives for unleashing havoc in the world.

The world deserved to end.

"I will lead the world to salvation."
