Radish appeared in Rah's garden quite by surprise. A fumbling hawk had lost its grip on her just over Basil's vegetable patch, where she had landed on a patch of radishes. Basil, an anxious mole to begin with, had exclaimed in rather a harried manner until Rah appeared in order to soothe him.

Seeing the tiny rabbit laying there, dabs of red on her cheeks, Rah had rushed to her aid, picking her up and carrying Radish into her burrow. She was such a small and helpless creature! But to have survived both an attack from a hawk AND a fall from the sky, Rah knew she had a fighter on her hands. Mending the baby up as best she could, Rah knew she could only rely on time to bring her good news.

Time is, of course, a great healer. Radish survived, and with Rah's care grew and grew. After a few weeks she was bounding around the burrow like she'd never met a hawk in her life, and Rah knew it would soon be time for Radish to leave her. Fortunately not too far for there had been no word of any family looking for Radish and Rah cared for her far too much to ever want her to go. She moved into a burrow next to Rah, and all was well.

Radish is likely to be found these days playing with her friend Lettuce in the garden: running around Mule and Chamomile's hooves, and tormenting Basil by drawing faces on all of his vegetables. His frustration is tempered by love, however, and Rah only has to intervene on occasion with a distracting jam sandwich platter.
