Once upon a time;

In a far away land...

A young girl just wanted to be liked. Is that really so bad, the desire to be accepted by your peers and classmates?

The girl loved nature. She loved to dig in the dirt, examine the rocks and different colors of the dirt. She would have gladly explained why the dirt is different colors and what it means. She could easily have told her classmates about all the latest comics, science fiction, and fantasy books. She could have explained about the periodic table and how it is arranged.

Sadly none of the girls in her village were interested in those things. The girls there were interested in the latest fashions, showing off their families' wealth, and expensive vacations.

The young girl was poor and had been raised to be honest, but all she wanted beyond anything else was to belong.desire to belong was strong too. And besides, it was just one simple lie. What could it hurt?

But one lie;

Turned into another

Petronella soon was consumed by her lies and her fears of being ousted as a fraud. She became so obsessed she even kept a notebook of her lies and tried studying them in her spare time to keep everything straight. Despite all her efforts, all kids in the village knew her for a liar and a fake. Even in their 'friendship' they disliked her and made fun of her without her knowledge. Blithely and desperately, Petronella kept going on with her lies.

One day while out with a group of 'friends' one of the boys turned out to be a might sorcerer. Fed up with Petronella, he uttered the words that changed her life:"Let the truth be known to all.
No more tales- short or tall.
May the words we need to hear
Pass from your lips to waiting ear.
From this day on, the truth you'll tell.
There's just one way to break the spell.
Three selfless acts you must perform
To aid a stranger who's forlorn."

Petronella was devastated when the words were uttered. What is worst is the group of 'friends' showed their true colors. They mercilessly questioned her about all the stories she had told and laughed to no end. In the end of that night, Petronella's only escape was to run away in defeat and tears.

It wasn't as simple as it sounded, helping three people in need. Selfless was the key word. If the reason behind the act was Petronella's wish to defeat the curse, it didn't count. Petronella had to genuinely want to help someone for the sake of helping for it to count.
