She had been tempted to lead the woman astray, yes. Many humans had struggled through the mountain passes; few survived without serious injuries. (It was a kindness, she told herself, they would never have survived anyway.)
She had been tempted, but then she watched as the woman scrambled over frozen rocks. Her own hooves gripped the rock with ease, unlike the boots of the woman. Silently, she watched as the woman's grip failed and the human slid down the slope she had spent so long climbing, clothing ripping as she fell. Looking down, she could see something odd - the woman's skin was blue.
Not frostbite-blue, nor ice-blue - she knew that colour most intimately - but a deeper blue, like the clear sky at midnight in the depths of winter. How curious; surely it wasn't natural. She, certainly, had never seen skin like that before, and many humans had clambered through her pass before. Curiosity piqued, she descended, until she was standing only a few feet above the sprawled woman.
"May I help you?" Her voice was rusty with disuse - even in the brief summer, few souls were brave enough to climb the permanently iced mountains. A smile spread slowly across the woman's face, and she sat up, wincing.
"Maybe you can. You see, I'm looking for a particular berry..."
