Claudell was born the fourth boy of seven children, on a large farm in the vast world known as Pandoria. He was always the quiet one, obeying orders when given to him without talking back and always acting polite towards others. His siblings picked on him for this, but Claudell didn't mind and would often just ignore their teasing.
At the age of seven, when he was brushing a lamb late at night, he discovered that he could communicate with it after saying, "Stop moving so much, please!", and the lamb apologized. Surprised, Claudell said thank you, to which the lamb replied, "No problem Claudell." Nearly freaked out, he attempted a conversation with all of the sheep in the barn, and found out that he could hold conversations with them. Claudell then went to the horses and tried talking with them, but they did not understand him like the sheep did.

Claudell only told his father about his secret and, when it came time for him to be designated to a certain job on the farm, his father let him work only with the sheep.
Claudell was content. The sheep were good companions for him and would always listen (though being the polite boy he was, he let them talk as well), unlike his siblings. He found himself wanting to spend more and more time with that certain flock of sheep, and he would skip out on activities that their siblings did with their friends. Claudell wasn't very social with other people, especially people his age, and would often go out of his way to avoid talking to them.

The years passed by quickly and soon Claudell found himself at his father's deathbed shortly after his eighteenth birthday. His other siblings were standing back against the walls to let their brother talk with the father before he died. His father beckoned for him to lean in close and he did; he then told his son to take the flock of sheep from the farm and to travel Pandoria. Claudell told his father that he would.
After his father died Claudell took that flock of sheep, a border collie named Barley, and some supplies, then walked away from the farm and started to travel throughout Pandoria.

In order to get more food and supplies, Claudell would stop at different villages scattered throughout Pandoria and sell wool and treasures that he discovered while traveling. One day, while in a rather large village, he entered a thrift store to sell some of his old clothing.
Claudell's eyes rested upon a golden haired woman playing the violin for her parents.
He sold what he had and tried to stick around to see the woman, but the store closed.

The next day Claudell was walking through the village square when he spotted the woman playing the violin again. People were dropping coins into the violin case right in front of her. He walked up to her and dropped a few coins into the violin case. Then, Claudell complimented the girl on her wonderful playing and asked her name; she said that her name was Alexia, and that she was saving her money to buy a horse so that she could travel Pandoria and see all the wonders that the land had in store.
Claudell stuck around that village for about a week to see Alexia, and the two became good friends. But soon the day came that Claudell had to leave the village to travel again.

He tried. He really did. Claudell was walking away from the village when he realized that he had never felt so close to someone other than a sheep. He returned to the village, his sheep in tow, and asked Alexia to travel Pandoria with him.
She agreed.
