The Lovestruck Bookworm

It was the second Tuesday of the month, a particularly dreary day. Gloominess hung over the city in the form of dark clouds, broadcasting shadows even in the brightest corners. After class, Jeanie hurried onto her bus, wanting nothing more than to warm up to a hot mocha latte and perhaps a warm cinnamon bun while cracking open one of the large novels she was currently rereading.

The bus ride there was a long one, as the usual chatter was somewhat nonexistence. As she exited down the stairs, shielding her hair from the spitting rain, she couldn't shake the unusual feeling of butterflies in her stomach. She shrugged it off as nothing more than hunger, and went on her way down the street to the old run-down bookstore.

You could say Jeanie preferred to live her life through text. The small black words on off-white pages could give her a sense of adventure, scariness or romance in the flip of a crisp page. To her, reading was an adventure where she could climb the Himalayas or deep sea dive in the Atlantic by cracking open a well-loved cover.

As she arrived she quickly glanced at her usual sofa, which was thankfully untaken. She hurried to grab her latte and bun, and quickly made her way over to the table. As she did, she noticed a bright blue envelope lying face up the table, scrawled font reading "For you". Assuming it was from the person before, she left it untouched. As she reached to grab the book from the shelf behind her, the heart shaped seal caught her eye again, and curiosity getting the better of her, decided to open it.
