Shapeshifter Tristesse's Personal Journal, 37th day of Falltime
We found her washed up on the shore, unconscious.
There were stains of blood on her face and chest, yet no open wounds as far as we could tell. Still, the blood seemed to be her own. But whatever it was that had happened, I could not bear to see the creature to be left alone to die. I had to take her to safety and heal her. Violaine protested, saying it was too dangerous. This time, I didn't listen to her.
Vio, despite her earlier protests, helped me carry her to the house. There I made her warm, clean and as comfortable as I knew how. That was two days ago, and she still hasn't woken up. But I swear I will try to save her.
Unknown Observations Journal, page 337
The creature, heavy and strong of build, had been found at the coast by a feline shapeshifter (more closely discussed in chapter 7). Despite some imperfections in appearance, it would most accurately be classified as a Celinox. (Detailed drawing of subject can be found in appx. two, page 14.) The most striking deviance from common Celinox build is the tail, being short and stubby, with a dark tip instead of a light one, and a distinct lack of longer tufts of hair in neck, chest, stomach and tail area.
Bearing the marks of having been blessed by the Sea Witch Merana, subject is a creature called Hydrus. Of these creatures I know little, and therefore will welcome the chance to study more. These creatures are commonly believed to be ... (text derails into a detailed description of Hydrus creatures.)
Having problems with its eyesight, the subject resorts mostly to sound and feel in navigating. It appears to be able to vaguely sense light and shapes, and has no trouble avoiding blows, or obstructions in it's way.
Shapeshifter Tristesse's Personal Journal, 3rd day of Wintertime
Fathoms has been feeling better, although she still can't walk well. At least she is alive.
Vio's still afraid of her, but that is to be expected. Fathoms is not exactly friendly, and is very hard to read. Still, I feel some kind of responsibility for her, as the one who saved her from the waves. I'm trying to be her friend.
It's not easy, though. Usually, as I am a weretigrean, I have a fluent understanding with most feline beings. Fathoms, however, doesn't seem to understand any gesture I make: as if she was blind, and mute, and deaf to all human contact. Yet something, something in the way she moves tells me that she hasn't always been a Hydrus beast, and that she isn't one by her own choice.
The sea, she seems to both love and hate at the same time. It is like it's her home, but yet... something terrible happened to her, at the sea.
