“Terrible things happen to good people” that’s what his mother had told him as she lay dieing. He held onto his mothers hand as she slipped away feeling every inch of struggling pain she felt pass through him. He felt as is he was dieing with her. She fought off the feeling of death for over a week, the doctors we’re so stunned at her amazing ability to fight this. But after seeing her son and telling him all he needed to know, she was at peace and she slipped off into the arms of death.
Its been nearly five years since her death. Akumu sat at the kitchen table drinking his soda. He had landed a job at a big a medical company. College wasn’t needed for him, he had the smarts to find a cure and his uncle running the show he didn’t have to worry. Leaning forward he read the headline of the paper “Dreams and death does it again” that was his name. his mom had named him pretty much “Death and Dreams” fitting for him.
He was working on a project, a project that would induce people into sleep but would be able to leave there body. It was a break through, breaking the human mind out of its body and being able to walk from the body. Some called it magic, he called it science. a lot of people looked down upon him called him names. He currently had a death threat on his head. He chuckled at the thought of something killing him. Death, death was his name.
He rose from the table and put his plate in the sink, he thanked Maria his cook-maid. She bowed and smiled at him. “Good day at work sir, good day”. Akumu stopped and smiled back “Hopefully, if it works, people will never have to wake up to sickness” he grabbed his coat and umbrella and headed out the door. He opened it letting the morning rain hit it the top part of the umbrella, while he stayed dry. Stepping out onto the side walk he started out on what would be the end.
Reaching his main office build he stopped in front of a hot dog stand. He strolled up to the stand and got himself one. He was starving still, it must have been one of those days. Sitting on a bench watching children play he smiled. He remembered when his mom would take him to the park. To eat hotdogs and run around, no matter the weather rain or shine, he loved it. Eating the last bit of hot dog, he looked up to see a man in a trench coat aiming a gun at him. He smiled “Good day sir, good day to die” the man holding the gun glared down on him showing no sign of mercy he pulled the trigger. The last thing he heard of the sound of screaming. Then it all went black.
He woke up to a white room. The room had a bed in it and it seemed to be endless amounts of white floor. He stood up feeling a bit woozy he braced himself against the bed and staggered over and ran straight into what seemed to be not so endless amounts of floor but a wall. He ran his hand over the wall. “I see your awake” he wiped around to be face to face with a women. Her hair was curled to the extreme and half of it was up in a large poofy bun. The rest was in a pony tail to her side. “ nice sleep?” she smiled looking him from head to toe. His eyes closed and opened, he reached up and rubbed them. “y-your real?” she walked closer to him placing a hand on his cheek. “Of course” she put a pair of jeans in his hands and a black tank and a weird jacket-coat looking thing. “Get dressed” she walked away and disappeared through a section of the white wall.
Akumu got dressed he tried to eye him self but he could not without a mirror. Giving up on the matter he walked slowly over to where the young women had left and he felt around for the exit. Placeing his hand on a certain spot he passed right through and he found himself in a hall, with blue walls. He slowly made his way down the hall trying to be quiet as possible. He kept to the middle of the hall just incase there was any more secret doors.
Peering around the corner of a hallway see saw the door of all doors. It seemed to be about 100 ft tall and these large men stood in front of it. He stepped out and walked towards them. He wasn’t afraid something inside him told him he would be ok. Reaching the gate like door he peered up to see the faces of the men. They wore golden masks that looked like dogs. “ oh look…guard dogs”. he chuckled walking past the guards eyeing them. There eyes fallowed him making him walk faster into the next room.
Entering the room he was hit by a force. Bringing him down onto his knees he slowly tried to raise his head but the light that was shone down from the face of angel…or. Taken by surprise the figure in the light stood and walked to him. “..rise” slowly he felt his legs let him rise. “you Akumu are the angel of dreams and nightmares, the angel of death!” Akumu peered up to his face but looked away finding it to bright “…your.. I’m in.. I’m dead..” the voice spoke louder pointing towards him “ DO YOU UNDER STAND ME? “ looking back but not directly Akumu nodded “Yes..” sitting back down the shadowed figure laughed “now go, go and bestow upon thy self the joy of heaven”.
Leaving the room Akumu fell down to his knee pounding his fist to the floor. “DAMN IT TO…” he was cut off by a cough. He peered up to see the same women from before. “I don’t think that’s a good call” looking her over once more he finally stood back up dusting himself. “Oh…alright then Ill remember that” extending his hand he smiled “I’m Akumu” she looked at his hand and grinned “I’m Eth ” he lowered his hand and crossed his arms over his chest. “so...what are you?” she walked pasted him and turned, what seemed to be a hall way. “I’m an angel, the angel of time” Akumu laughed slapping his leg. “angel of time your kidding me?, in fact I don’t believe any of this shit Ill wake up soon” Eth stopped and turned to him. “you think that all of this…”. touching her hand to a wall a window appear the curtains part and a light shone in relieving a golden city. Akumu blinked a few times and rubbed his eyes nearly sticking his head out the window “what the crap is this place!?” Eth giggled and put a hand on his back. “Heaven you idiot” scanning the area he saw golden towers and roads, below were rivers and fields of flowers and beyond was a ocean it seemed. A ocean in heaven. Taking his head back in from the window he smiled slightly. “Dead and I was doing so good there. About to help the world”. eth frowned and put a hand on her hip checking her nails. “You died nearly on purpose...god hates to have to kill others off early but you were doing a idiotic move.” Akumu’s cheeks lost all color, his words trailed out slowly as he spoke. “If you have done that no one would have died, the devil could have caused so much destruction and god would not be able to do that because only the angel of death can go into dreams”. closing his eyes he thought of everything his mother...his past his job…now this. “I’m the angel of death...so that means I get to go into dreams?”. eth smiled now. “Well you get to go and gather the dead you also get to deliver dreams”. Opening his eyes he gazed back up, her face solemnly waiting for him to react . “as hideous as you think it is…you’re a good thing for god, soon you‘ll see why you had to die” she removed her hands and began walking down the hall “ you have a staff to help”.
Fallowing quickly after he stumbled a few times. “Uh oh...so do I have wings?” releasing her wings she began to fly backward while facing him. “Yes son, the stories are true, but you gotta wait for them to become comfortable on you”. Akumu frowned. “Damn I wanted them now…so when do I start my job?” she then stopped and wrapped her wings around him and pulled him closer “Tonight...Akumu tonight”. Akumu’s face lit up with a bright red. Squirming within her grasp she smiled and traced a finger on his cheek “Don’t be so twitch its not appealing for death, your like a mouse trying to be a cat” she let him go letting his feet hit the floor softly. Putting her wings back in she landed on her own feet and dusted her dress off. She then took his hand in his patting it softly “Don’t worry I promise you, Ill help you with anything” Akumu smiled seeing her face, she was beautiful and kind. “Right…thank you Eth” she lead him down the rest of the hallway and into another room. “…welcome home death”
