He left the building without looking back even though he was sure that he would never see them again. Of course this thought hurt as it meant that he wouldn't be able to see his little son grow up. And that he would never be able to tell his best friend how important he really was to him. His only true love and anchor, his rock and his conscience. But he had to accept it. They would be better off without him anyways. Better and safer. So many wrong decisions, so many stupid things he had said and done, too much he had lost already, including his wife and the mother of his only child; it was just fair to end this crap now, once and for all.

It felt like only a brief moment had passed when he reached the place where he was supposed to meet his fate in form of his former mentor and surrogate father. Heavy rain was pouring down and the ground around him already had turned into mud and puddles. "You can still leave." a voice in his head was pleading. "Just leave and never return!" For a second this felt like a good idea, then he shook his head. No. It had to end here, one way or another. It wasn't about him any longer. It was about the only two people he still cared about and dying to save them was worth it.
