My name is Aslin. I'm currently 20 years old, and I've been blind for the past year and a half. The night of the accident, I was in a car with my parents, and we were driving back home after visiting my aunt who lives quite a ways away. I had just asked my mother to turn down the AC when we hit a big tanker truck. I can't remember who was to blame, and it's rather pointless now anyway.
What I do remember is the pain from the accident. My right leg was broken in 2 places, as well as my left shoulder, two of my ribs, and my right wrist from trying to brace myself. I thought I was too cool for a seat belt. But my mother, who always wore hers, died on impact. My father took a hit to his head and chest, but he was awake enough to use himself as a shield.
We were driving up a slope when we hit, and our car had turned completely upside down. The tanker ended up on it's side, pinning us. Then the chemicals that the truck was carrying started leaking, and with our windshield busted from the crash, it didn't seem like long before it started making its way toward us. Later, I was told that we I spent hours in that twisted metal prison before help came. I don't remember much. Even though the chemicals never touched me, the fumes got to my eyes and my lungs.
As far as my lungs go, I'll never be able to run a marathon, and I'll be watched closely by doctors for the rest of my life, but as long as I don't overwork them, they should hold. As for my eyes ... most likely permanent blindness. I've been told that I might start to see light, with some luck, but I've gave up on that. There's also eye replacement surgery, but I've had enough of hospitals to last me a lifetime. I just wanted ... something more.
I was in a horrid, monstrous place looking for my 'something more' when Iwazo found me, or should I say, when I found him. We grew close very quickly, and he's been my protector of sorts. When things got really bad, he took me back to his family, and they've taken me in, but I can't help but hear tension in their voices. I am unsure if it's tension from Iwazo leaving, or for him returning with me.
