Just Playing a Part

Picollus enjoys life a bit too much at times. He sees it as a game and everyone in it who isn’t him or related to him are the game pieces. He rolls the dice and moves things as he pleases. It wasn’t always this way, though. It took Picollus a very long time to gain his father’s trust in order to do his job. Being the youngest of four siblings, he was always spoiled and treated like a child. It took his brother’s childish antics before Picollus could gain any trust from his family.

Though he had been allowed to leave home and take up residence with the mortals, Picollus was not allowed to interact much at all with them. Not until he and Apedemak finally caught up and detained their elder brother Djall. After proving himself through this task, God finally allowed him to do as he pleased amongst the mortals. This allowed the angel to take his role of Death much more seriously.

Picollus was not a cruel man; on the contrary, when he wanted something dead, he generally did it very quickly. He worked very close with his sister, Anagke, when it came to his larger schemes. Sometimes, entire populations needed to be removed for one reason or another, and the two together could come up with rather creative ways of doing that.

But even with this life full of travel and fun, Picollus needed more. It was in his travels through barren deserts that he made an unlikely friendship with Nyambi, the Sun Goddess. Though Picollus was cold in nature and touch, Nyambi was quite the opposite. The two complemented each other near perfectly. It only took a few short years before they decided to become one. This involved a lengthy ceremony; complete with sacrifices and flowers.

The two were quick to give birth to their first child; a demi-god by the name of Virbius. Virbius was the light of their life for the short time he held onto his. Born very ill, he didn’t live past several days. But being a god and an angel gave the parents a special gift; they brought their son back from the dead. Raising Virbius took a lot of strength from both of them, and though they nearly perished, it was well worth it to see their child grow.

Virbius followed in his father’s footsteps, leaving to live among the mortals. Picollus had full confidence in his song but continued to keep a close eye on him. Now Picollus spends much of his time in the heavens with his mate, but still visits the mortals occasionally. And of course, he is still in contact with his sister.
