Ohgi was sitting in his quarters staring at an old photograph, reminiscing about the old times with his good friend Naoto and Naoto's little sister Kallen. Naoto led the original resistance group before he died in battle. Ohgi then acquired command of the organization until he relinquished it to Zero.
He looked over at his bed where a woman was sleeping. He found her unconscious at the docks right after a battle took place. She had lain in the left-over rubble muttering, "Zero. I know who Zero is." Even though she was clearly Britannian, Ohgi decided to carry her to his place and nurse her back to health.
When she finally awoke, it was clear that she had no idea who she was. Ohgi considered using refrain on her. Refrain is a drug catered to the Japanese people, and it allows the user to revisit past memories. However, prolong usage can leave the user in a vegetable-like state.
If he were to use refrain on her, he could find out who Zero really was, but he just couldn't do it. Despite the fact that she was a Britannian, she was also a kind and caring woman whom he was slowly becoming infatuated with. He even gave her the name Chigusa since she couldn't remember her real one.
The empire of Britannia had invaded hit beloved country Japan, using the mecha Knightmares to take out Japanese battle tanks. Britannia had killed his best friend, and stripped Japan of all of its dignity. Ever since Britannia won all those years ago, Japan became known as Area Eleven, and the people were then known as Elevens. But Ohgi would not stand for this injustice; he vowed to keep on fighting in memory of his lost friend, Naoto. And with the new-found help of the strategic genius Zero, this resistance would finally stand a chance.
Ever since he arrived on the day Naoto died, Zero has done nothing except prove that he is fit to command such a force that had become known as the Black Knights. He gave commands as a mysterious voice over their radio wave and led them to safety, even when they were in apparently hopeless situations. Once, the Britannian forces had them outnumbered and surrounded, but Zero still managed to get them out of there alive.
Since that day, he has led them to several victories against the Britannia Empire. They even won a battle against the legendary Princess Cornelia, a ruthless and powerful warrior. With each battle, Ohgi couldn't help but put more and more faith into his mysterious leader, Zero.
No longer would the powerful Britannia Empire forcefully take anything it wanted. It is up to the Black Knights to fight Britannia and not only regain Japan, but to end Britannia's reign over the world.
Ohgi put his photograph away and left his quarters. It was time for his scheduled call to Zero. Though Zero led the Black Knights, he only ever seemed to be around when it was time to act. No one ever knew where he went or even who he was. And it was Ohgi's job to call Zero for status reports and to receive orders.
"Ohgi, I assume you've heard the latest news about vice-governess Euphemia's announcement concerning the special zone in Japan?" asked Zero, coolly.
"Yes I have, Zero. What do we do about that? Does this mean the Black Knights are over with?"
"Of course not!†Zero exclaimed. “It’s merely a ploy to get our guard down. The only thing we can do is go along with the act and be ready to move the second they do."
"But how?" Ohgi asked.
"Vice-governess Euphemia has requested that I build this new safe zone with her, so I will agree to meet with her. I want you and the rest of the troops to stand by and be ready to fight when the Britannian troops are released. Understand?" Zero ordered.
"Yes, Zero," Ohgi said as he hung up.
So Zero thinks that this whole thing is a trap? Perhaps it is, but it's a wonderful idea, nonetheless. In this safe zone of Euphemia's, the Japanese will be able to call themselves Japanese, not Eleven. They would be able to live as Britannian equals. But as good as that seems, I know that it is simply a fantasy at this point. Zero is right; there is no way that could be real, Ohgi thought.
Ohgi organized the troops as Zero ordered to prepare for the meeting with the Black Knights and Britannia. It was planned that Zero would have to go in alone with Euphemia as the rest of the Black Knights waited outside. Negotiations didn't seem to last long, however. After only twenty minutes, Euphemia came running out with a gun. She pleaded to the Japanese gathered for the would-be joyous event to just die, immediately causing an uproar.
"All troops, please kill every last Eleven here. That is an order," Euphemia stated, as she shot into the crowd of Japanese.
Complete chaos followed as the Black Knights rushed in to stop the Britannia troops and to protect the innocent civilians. Sadly, there were still many civilian casualties. Fighting continued into the night and developed into an all-out war. The Black Knights managed to hold their own and win the battle, but it would only be a matter of time before Britannia would replenish her forces.
"All forces, report to Ashford Academy. That will be our new area of operations." ordered Zero's voice over the radio.
We're going to take over a school? What is Zero thinking?
But Ohgi followed the order and reported to the school. He, along with several other Black Knights, quickly rounded up the students, making sure that none of them were harmed. It didn't take long for them to gain control, so he awaited Zero's next order.
"Ohgi, we caught someone sneaking around. What do you want us to do with her?" asked Tamaki, one of the Black Knights, proceeding to let the woman in.
Ohgi immediately recognized the woman to be Chigusa. "It's OK, Tamaki. I'll handle this personally."
As he led her to the closest empty room, Ohgi asked, "What are you doing here? Don't you know how dangerous it is?"
"I have regained my memories," she said as she pulled out a gun. "I am Villetta Nu, a Britannian. And to redeem myself for ever falling in love with a lowly Eleven like you, I will eliminate you." Villetta shot Ohgi after hesitating for a moment.
Everything went dark for Ohgi as his abdomen became enveloped with pain. He blacked out after a few moments. When he woke up, he was in prison. Ohgi looked around and saw many of his comrades in cells around him.
So we lost.
"Where is Zero?" Ohgi asked.
No one around him could look him in the eye, but they all looked angry at the mention of his name.
"Zero deserted us," answered one of the Black Knights, bitterly.
