Bond entered the hotel room and looked around for Vesper as he removed his dinner jacket. He saw a broken wine glass on a table and heard the soft trickle of water from the bathroom.
He walked softly across the room and gently pushed open the bathroom door.
Vesper was sitting in the shower, still wearing her clothes, and crying.
He stepped into the shower and sat nest to her. As he untied his bow tie she leaned against his arm.
"It's like there's blood on my hands; it's not coming off."
"Let me see," he whispered and took her hand. He lifted it to his lips and kissed her fingers, then held her hand tightly in his own.
"That's better," he said.
"Mmhm," she murmured.
"You cold?"
She nodded. "Yeah," she said hoarsely.
He reached up and turned the water up warmer. He lowered his arm and put it around her holding her close.

The fight was over. Bond and Vesper were the only ones alive in the building. He rushed over to the elevator that she was trapped inside, and tried to pull the doors open. Vesper just stood there and looked at him.
When he finally stopped and looked at her, she gazed back at him sadly, and said, "I'm sorry, James." She grabbed the elevator's key and turned it in the lock before he could stop her. Then she backed away from him as far as the elevator would allow, and waited to die.
Suddenly the building shook and began to crumble apart. It began to sink into Venice's waters. With one of the shakes, the elevator plunged into the water. Bond dived after her. He swam to the elevator and shook the doors as hard as he could. But it wasn't hard enough. They wouldn't give.
Bond yelled in frustration, but it was muffled by the water. Vesper walked forward, pried his hand off the elevator and held them to her face. She kissed them as he had once kissed her's to relieve her of the guilt she had felt after the fight at the hotel. Now, she was kissing his to relieve him of the guilt that would come with her death.
Then, she pushed back from him, and unable to hold her breath any longer, began to drown.
It didn't take long.
Bond desperately kicked the elevator door. It finally gave, and he pulled her body out. He swan to the surface with her body, got her up on a flat surface, and tried to revive her with CPR. It was too late. She was dead, and there was nothing he could do about it. He kissed her dead lips, and held her body close to him.
