When you look in the mirror, do you like what you see?

A god sent to our world, but shrunk down to contain his massive powers. Tezca has a bad attitude, but he's just annoyed that everyone treats him like a baby...

Tezcatlipoca (Whose name means 'Lord of the Smoking Mirror') is the Aztec god of the night, the north, obsidian, sorcery, war, strife, beauty, slaves, hurricanes, divination, rulership, and jaguars among others. To put it simply he is the antithesis of Quetzalcoatl, and they are often depicted as bitter enemies, often tricking and destroying each other, though in some legends they have been known to work together. In one of the Aztec creation stories, for example, the world was created through the joint effort of the two gods, though Tezcatlipoca lost his foot in the process to the earth monster, Cipactli, upon who's carcass the gods built the world.

Tezcatlipoca was one of the most influential gods of the Aztec people, and was both respected and feared by his followers. He was known the punish greed and evil among the people, but reward the brave, pure, and loyal. He would appear in the night in the form of a either the mythical bird Chalchiuhtotolin, giving an eerie cry through the jungle, or as a large headless, skeleton, it's chest still bearing its beating heart. If a person was brave enough to investigate the odd sounds and either grab Chalchiuhtotolin by the tail, or reach into the skeleton's chest and grab its heart, they would be greatly rewards by the god for their bravery. If however, they were scared off they would punished for their cowardice. He could also assume the form of a jaguar (Tepeyollotl) who is the god of the heart of the mountain. He also held the power to see into the minds and hearts of mortals with the use of his obsidian mirror. If a mortal were to look into his mirror it would reflect their true inner nature to them.

Tezcatlipoca, being a highly influential deity, had a magnificent temple in the capital city of Tenochtitlan (modern day Mexico City), and also had his own priesthood and festival. His festival was called Toxcatl and would be held for 20 days in May. For a year prior to the actual festival, a young man would impersonate the god, representing the god on Earth. He would live lavishly for that year, and take 4 wives (representing the 4 wives of the god). Then on the last day of the festival he would be sacrificed, and a new representative chosen.

I obtained most of this info with the help of the Aztec Gateway. If you see any errors in the information, let me know and I'll fix it right away ;) The picture used in from the Aztec codex, the Codex Borgia.
