he's sitting there, staring into the night. his fur reminds you of the stars above in the sky, and also space somehow.
when you take a step closer, he turns his head, looks at you and grins. then he turns around again.
you decide to sit down next to him, and for some time both of you are silent, just looking at the endlessness above you.

it's beautiful, isn't it?, he asks. you nod. would you believe me if i tell you i am kinda one of them?
them? wait, is he talking about the stars?
he laughs. yes, i am. i'm a warden of a star. or, at least, i used to be. he looks sad for a moment, before starting to grin again. you wanna hear that story?
that fox is strange, but you're curious.

i was born as the warden of one of the stars of the constellation called 'fox'., he begins. my star was young and small, but i was proud to be born as his protector. not everyone can say that about themselves, right?
i spent years up there, just sitting there, watching space around me pass by...
planets and stars were born and died, i saw black holes and cosmic showers, all kinds of creatures...
but it got boring. oh man, did it get boring. i still can't believe how the other wardens of the stars of the fox-constellation could stay so calm? how they could sit there, worlds passing by and not be curious about what happens on these planets or far away on the other side of this universe, or if there are even other universes! well, they were old. hella old. old people are boring.
he snorts.
so i decided to check a bit of the universe out. just a tiny bit. at first.
it started with a planet, where flowers grew as big as trees on your planet, with insects many times larger than the biggest animal on your planet. it rained fire, but that didn't bother the plants. it was amazing.
this planet didn't satisfye my urge to see the universe, no, it made it even worse.
what could be on the other planets? i needed to find out. so i did.
i visited many planets, and after some time i completely forgot about my duty...
when i came to your planet, it was too late.
the star i was supposed to take care of had died.
the other wardens were furious. they punished me, i lost all my powers. so, now i'm trapped here.
i mean, it could be worse but... if you saw space, staying in one place is terrible for you.
i hate being limited to just this planet. i want to travel space again. but i can't.

both of you stay silent for some time, until the sun starts to rise.

well, i guess i'm heading home now. he looks at you and gives you a big grin. thanks for keeping me company. it was nice telling my story again, it has been some time...
he gets up and gives you a last nod. goodbye. maybe we'll meet again someday? we'll see, right. and he's gone.
