Charbonnet & Cioccolato

A pair of boys who live in a steam-powered world, and who regularly experience the grimy, dirty underside of their environment. Magan Fry is an orphan with a club foot that frees him from labor, but makes it difficult to outrun the "dog catchers" that hunt down the homeless children. Jude Sobol's family has a history in harvested lignite, which they sold as "charbonnets," a blue collar occupation that began to go dry in his grandfather's era. Jude lives in what his father was able to scrounge from their investments, a glorified shanty under the extra-city railway bridge. There's a lamp post in front, and a kitchen inside, and rarely anyone there because the son of coal peddlers is an extremely hard worker.
