"LIIR!"
He ran faster, laughing out loud to himself. He could see it from here, the fence between him and freedom. He hopped over it so many times before and it had never once failed him. This time was no different, and as he bounded over it he heard his mother's last desperate cries to keep him inside the property.
"Liir Careenly, you get back her this instant! You're father will not stand for this!"
But it was the same thing she said every time, and he never turned back for it. He just kept on running, enjoying the burn of the wind on his face. As the trees grew thicker he slowed his pace to a walk. He'd be coming to the road soon and he'd have to cross it with caution, should his mother have sent someone to find him there. But at it came into view and he peered down it suspiciously there was no sign of anyone and he crossed it without trouble. Through the short mass of trees he came to the backyard of Neis Galynt.
"Yes, come in, Liir," came his voice as he moved to tap on the glass door, through which he could see Neis at his easel, paintbrush in hand.
A small squeal came from his left and the bush rustled, but when he looked there was no one. So, happy with his escape, he entered his friend's house.
