Log Notes: Doctor Leonard H. McCoy was born in Georgia on January 20, 2227. In high school he met his future wife, Jocelyn Darnell. He attended the University of Mississippi in the mid 2240s and started studying medicine. Shortly after graduation he married Jocelyn and they had a daughter together, Joanna. A few years later, McCoy discovered Jocelyn had been having an affair with her ex. He was devastated and they separated immediately. McCoy sunk into depression. Soon after the separation, McCoy enrolled in Starfleet.

While in the Academy, McCoy met James T. Kirk. After a rocky start, they soon became close friends. After graduating from Starfleet Academy, McCoy worked on various assignments offplanet. While working on these missions, McCoy decided it would be best for his daughter to be raised planet-side, so he sent her to live with Jocelyn's parents.

When Kirk gets his own ship, he asked McCoy to come aboard as her CMO, and McCoy gladly agreed. Unfortunately McCoy had to leave and take care of his terminally ill father. At his father's urging, McCoy turns off the life support. However, weeks later, a cure for the illness is discovered and McCoy once again sinks into depression.

Soon after the death of his father, McCoy is asked to join a medical relief mission on Capella IV. He does not enjoy his time there, so when Kirk offers him his old job aboard the Enterprise, McCoy is happy to accept. Until now, McCoy and Jocelyn had still been separated, but she finally sends him divorce papers and he signs them with no fuss. She gets remarried.

He continues to serve with Kirk and the rest of the crew aboard the Enterprise.

McCoy and Kirk have a very close friendship. McCoy often questions Kirk's rash decisions, and has no problems letting his friend know what is on his mind. McCoy can often be cantankerous and emotional, but he's a true softie at heart, and truly cares for the crew of the Enterprise. He often stashes alcohol in his office and loves nothing better than kicking back with Kirk after a long shift and just having a drink.

They are also husbands.
