In a universe parallel to what most are accustomed to, a present-day world filled with magic and mythical creatures exists, where those both skilled in magic and other trades or who refuse to partake in such things thrive together. As magic evolved over time, so did the living creatures in the world around it. Magic wasn't forgotten -- but it wasn't the main source of power anymore. For example, what was the point of trying to heal somebody if you didn't understand how the body worked? Places to do studies of particular interests were created, much like a mages college. Any sentient being could learn any trade they wanted and not have to worry about fitting in or living in a poor neighborhood -- if one had enough drive, there was a job opportunity for them somewhere.
This is the world Girron was born into. His parents were both instructors at a university -- one taught the basic fundamentals of magic, while the other taught the laws of the land. They were fairly well-to-do and, for their species, were considered pretty attractive. A couple thousand years ago, they were considered nearly extinct due to a pandemic, but as the years progressed, their numbers began to slowly creep upwards and they were able to expand from the secluded and reclusive places they once lived. Although most of their kind, the Lilmothiit, still stuck to their native lands, there were some who had ventured out to begin new lives and plant new roots elsewhere. Girron's parents were second generation Limothiit outside of their native lands.
From a young age, Girron excelled when it came to magic.
