Clumsy is what I am. I've never been very good at much of anything, because I always mess things up. I can't eat without getting food all over my face and fur. I was abandoned at a young age because, well, I was too much for my parents. They couldn't keep me out of trouble and feed themselves and my brother and sister. So I was left alone.
I'd never felt so lonely before. Sure, I was the outcast at home, but now I was really an outcast. There was no one to tell me stories before bed, or to eat my meals with. I wandered around aimlessly for a while. I scavenged for roots and plants to eat. I took shelter wherever I could find it, but I was a nomad.
But one day I had a terrible accident, the worst I'd had by far. I was out looking for food when my leg got caught on something, and I was hauled high into the air where I dangled by my foot. I struggled, but I couldn't get out of the trap. I knew I was going to die here, or maybe a human was going to take me and skin me or worse. Either way I was doomed.
The hours ticked by slowly. As the sun was setting I heard the rustle of leaves and the snap of twigs being stepped on. I was too exhausted to move anymore, and my head was pounding from being hung upside down all day. So I just watched as the human came out of the thicket with a sack over her shoulder. I was immediately terrified, my fear of humans overwhelming my weary body. I violently thrashed in the air and snarled as fiercely as I could at the human.
But instead of running away in fear, the two-leg chuckled. Apparently I looked cute and exhausted, rather than fierce. She began talking in a language I didn't understand, but her voice was friendly and she came over to get me off the rope. I calmed, hoping that's what she was doing, because she didn't sound bad I trusted her to release me.
She cut the rope and I fell to the ground. I looked at her curiously, wondering why she would release me. I wanted to bolt, but my head was heavy and my limbs felt like jelly. She smiled and said more words, and then she motioned with her hands for me to come. I watched her as she began to walk away, and I began to wonder if I should go with her. The forest was my home, but was it really where I belonged? I took my last look at the forest, and then followed after the human on jelly legs. I stumbled and fell, and the human came back for me. The two-leg brought me back to her home.
Since then I'm been living with her and a few others, and I'm even beginning to learn the new language! It's so exciting to be welcomed as a member of a family, and I even have my own collection of things!
