One dark winter night with no moon, I was stumbling around in a pitch black graveyard, calling out for my minion Malicia. Instead, I found a shivering, tiny Kanis huddled next to a crumbling old grave marker. The poor little thing had apparently been abandoned by his previous owner. Thinking he'd be a great addition to my pet family and Malicia would especially like him, I scooped him into my arms and tucked him into my jacket to warm him. Suddenly Malicia landed on my shoulder, leaping from the tree branch she had been perching on and began to coo in my ear. So Malicia, this was your plan all along, wasn't it? With new pet and minion safe, I started the one mile trek back to my house. A light snow began to fall. None too soon for the little Kanis, I thought. So, do you have a name, little guy? Upon arriving at the cabin, I started a fire and put down some bowls of food and water for the pets. A chain around the beasts neck glinted in the firelight. I could make out a partial name covered by some mud from the last rain we had. The tag spelled out N-e-y-r... and as I smoothed off the dried mud with my finger, the rest of the name was revealed. N-e-y-r-a-n. What a nice name! I wondered what language it was and if it had a special meaning....
