----Aeon 406, Age of the Autumn Eldergods.----
The wind was colder than usual this evening.TaShalla shivered silently to herself, without so much as moving a molecule of her body. Her training had paid off well, years of sacrifice and intense moments of desperation and pain all culminating in this. This was her night, her moment of glory and recognition.Footsteps, not nearby, but close enough for TaShalla's keen sense of hearing. She immediately tensed, holding her breath, as she judged the distance, size, and intent of the oncoming being. Muffled voices, too far away to make out, and footsteps faded. She exhaled without a sound.Waiting a moment, with her entire concentration spent on listening, she made sure the general vicinity was entirely empty before reassuming her regular form. She'd had a little bit of trouble with the initial shapeshifting lessons. Her teachers saw in her a great deal of potential but regularly commented on her lack of focus, holding her back after lessons, sometimes for hours, telling her to assume forms over and over. The practice and harsh grind of repetition had paid off, however, and she was well known throughout the Takatta assassins as one of the best they'd ever seen at the art, sometimes even their heightened sense were no match for her occasional pranks. A notable one was when she assumed the form of a teacher, and without a single fault lead the class outside for an early lunch, only to be reprimanded later when the actual teacher, Ji MarrekHan, turned the corner and was surprised to be faced with himself.Realising who and what was behind him, he quickly scalded her, inwardly proud of her incredibly powerful skill.Tonight, however, was no time for games or pranks. Tonight was not only a matter of life or death, for her, deepest confines and cloisters of the enemy clans territory was she currently standing in, but her entire progress within the clan and her status depended on it. This was her test. She had been sent disguised as a gift, a peace offering, to the enemy clan, the Shyttan, ghastly as they were, to settle an increased amount of animosity between the two.The speculation of course was the entire reason she was there, the Elders of the Shyttan had caught word of the task she was there to do in the first place, and of course it caused outrage and a rippling ferocity throughout the Shyttan, resulting in security and fortifications being increased thricefold. It was almost time, as she without even a shadow rippled through the cobbled hallway, still concentrating on only the noises of her surroundings. Finally, the doorway. In exactly three minutes the guards would change shifts, giving her just a miniscule window of time to attempt to slip into the targets room unnoticed, and fulfill her destiny.Voices, closer now, this was definitely it."Do you think they are still going to send their assassin?", remarked one of the voices, belonging to one of the guards."You never know with the Takatta, wily bunch of animals they are. Couldn't trust their word as far as I could throw one of them", a deeper voice replied."Just concentrate you two. I don't want to hear you, or know you're there. This is ridiculous enough I have to be watched so intensively.", said a third voice. This voice was the one she was waiting for. A sharp, slightly abrasive inflection, with a lilting sense of superiority. Elegent. Her target. Son of the ruling clan they were sworn to destroy.Footsteps from the cornerstones. The new sentry were here. It was time...
