My story...

Black dogs are what you imagine they are, large black ghostly dogs with glowing eyes. It is unknown which exact European culture started the stories, but there are legends of black dogs through Europe and even some parts of South America.

They are usually malevolent or "evil" spirits showing themselves to the doomed on darkened roads late at night. Sightings of them are usually increased during electrical storms and on cross roads. They are also seen where death has taken place, usually murder.

While not always omens of ill fortune and death it is still wise to avoid any areas where one might run into these fearsome beasts such as crossroads, execution grounds, and any other area where a grisly death has taken place.
