When one dog ain't enough, and two is too few...

"I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones." - Albert Einstein

He sits at his grubby, dilapidated desk, surrounded by audio equipment that has seen better days. Sighing, he pushes his thin-framed sunglasses closer to his chocolate-hued eyes and flips the small switch on the base of the old-fashioned radio microphone.

"YEEE-HAAAW, HA HA! This is Three Dog, fighting the Good Fight, and you're listenin' to G-N-R, that's Galaxy News Radio, comin' at you from a fortified bunker in a D.C. hellhole." He's smiling as he shouts into the mic, shouting in an empty room - his bodyguards patrolling the rooms on the other side of the door, patrolling the aforementioned Capitol Wasteland.

"Tensions continue to mount between the courageous forces of the Brotherhood of Steel and their estranged brethren: the Outcasts. Now, normally, family squabbles are none of my business; but when the Outcasts decide to take pot-shots at my building - which the Brotherhood uses as an outpost - I make an exception. So, Brotherhood Outcasts, KNOCK IT OFF! I prefer not to get murdered in my own backyard. The rest of you Brotherhood cats - can't you extend an olive branch or somethin'? You'd think fighting the Super Mutants would be enough." He coughs momentarily, wondering if any of the Brotherhood Paladins guarding the studios will take his plea to heart.

"But onto some real news, chiiildren. This, faithful listeners, is the story of a little boy. A little boy, named Bryan Wilks. You see, Bryan's from Grayditch, a small settlement that was recently overrun with overzealous Giant Ants. Bryan, sadly, was the sole survivor. That's where the kid from Vault 101 comes in, and where our story, thankfully, gets better. You see, not only did Mister Vault 101 stop the Ant problem, he also found little Bryan Wilks a new home. So if you see Bryan and his new parents, wish them all good luck. Oh - and 101? Nice work."

Three Dog flicks the small switch into the off position, then turns in his chair to put a holotape into the player. Cheerful jazz music plays, and the dark, grubby disc jockey - what's a disc? Hell if he knows - opens up a discolored package of Fancy Lads Snack Cakes. They taste like shit, but what else could he expect 200-year-old cupcakes to taste like?

The year is 2277, and approximately 200 years have passed since the two-hour-long nuclear exchange which brought about this sorry state of affairs. Two hundred years, and society had barely just managed to rebuild, and only in places that were especially fortified - Rivet City was erected in the ruins of an aircraft carrier, Megaton had been built from scrap metal salvaged from an old airport. And even Megaton, while a friendly little settlement, had been built around a live nuke. Well, it had been live, until 101 crawled out from the Vault. Kid showed some amazing technical skills, and disarmed the beast. The kid was also responsible for fixing the GNR relay dish, allowing Three Dog to sing his praises all over the Wasteland - and to actually be heard.

Every day Three Dog hears of pain and suffering, of raiders slaughtering families for only a few battered bottlecaps and a worn 10-mm pistol. Gunfire is exchanged daily just outside of his sanctuary - or is it a prison? Sure, with very little help, he brought Galaxy News Radio back to life five years ago - but now he couldn't even dream of leaving it, for fear of some green-skinned Super Mutant tearing his head off. Instead, he spends his days and nights either broadcasting live to anyone who will listen, pre-recording holotapes for those rare occasions he finds himself needing sleep, or gathering information. Three Dog has eyes all over the Wasteland, reporting back to him whenever possible. How else would he know so much about that kid from the Vault? Sure, his daddy, James, came to visit ol' Three Dog (bow-wow), but that's not exactly enough interaction to start calling yourself the kid's guardian angel.

No, instead, he continues work on his radio station, wondering if one day there will be peace in this irradiated shit-hole. He doubts it, and Three Dog's probably the closest thing to an optimist in this world. Because war never changes, and, well . . .

Fighting 'the Good Fight' is hard fucking work.

Three Dog is the lone DJ and newsman of Galaxy News Radio - a revived radio station located in northern Washington, D.C. - in the post-apocalyptic nuclear world of Fallout (specifically, Fallout 3). Fallout was created in its original incarnation in 1997, published by Interplay. This was followed by Fallout 2 in 1998, Fallout Tactics (2001), and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel in 2004.
After the purchase of the rights to create a new game in the Fallout universe, Fallout 3 was published by Bethesda Softworks in 2008. Fallout 3 is a first-or-third-person shooter - depending on user preference - and action-roleplaying game available on PC, PS3, and XBOX 360. Fallout, the Capitol Wasteland, Three Dog, the Lone Wanderer, Vault 101, Galaxy News Radio, and their likenesses are all ©Bethesda Softworks; I claim no ownership to the properties whatsoever. Voice clip & portrait courtesy of The Vault, an extensive Wikia detailing the entire Fallout universe.

Three Dog as he appears on Subeta is not a resident of the Wayward Home, rather, he remains in his retro-futuristic, highly-irradiated world; completely, blissfully unaware of any goings-on in 21st century London.
