The young warrior stood on the altar of the dungeon, bow drawn, staring up at the magnificent winged statue holding it's sword. He reached up and gently glided his fingers down the cold stone, whispering thanks and gratitude. He then enters the dungeon, with the blessing of the Goddess of War and Revenge, our Goddess, Morrighan.

The Goddess, Morrighan, watches over the land of Erinn and anyone who has entered a dungeon has seen her statue. Though at peace, you can see the sorrow in her eyesas she gazes down upon the many adventurers. This statue has been made to commemorate the wonderful goddess Morrighan, who sacrificed her life to save us humans during the war. Despite her name as the Goddess of War and Revenge, she is not a violent goddess. She is more of a mother goddess, who blesses and encourages warriors who go off into battle, and seeks revenge for those who have sacrificed their lives. With deep compassion for humans, she protects us from the Fomors every time they cast an evil grip on the land.

Morrighan's story is told in the book The Goddess Who Turned Into Stone. It all happened during the first war of Mag Tuireadh, when the war was almost over. While hiding and protecting their severely injured King from a battle, the humans sought refuge in the Rath. Little did they know, it was a trap, and the Fomors invaded through a secret passage on the unguarded, resting warriors. Fomors continued to pour in, slaughtering the men as the King tried to fight with his injured body. It was no use....

It was in that moment that Morrighan appeared. Using her powers, she sealed up the Rath preventing further Fomors to enter. Many men escaped as she sealed the path, however the Goddess of War had to hold off the remaining Fomor army alone. She began to slowly grow weaker, and as a last resort, unleashed a powerful spell.

She used her body as collateral to seal the passage of the Fomors, forever trapping them inside. They were now trapped under the seal of the Goddess, stuck inside forever. The magic of the Goddess used was to a huge sacrifice...as the Goddess' body was turned into stone. After the war, humans set up statues all across Erinn to honor the Goddess and her sacrifice. As one enters a dungeon, you will see her gazing down upon warriors, blessing them with her everlasting compassion.

With her physical body trapped in Erinn, the Goddess ascended into the land of the Gods, Tir Na Nog, where she still watches and protects the humans of Erinn.
The Goddess Morrighan allowed the humans to live in Erinn. With her physical body gone, she is remembered as the Protector of Humans, and is revered by warriors. The merciful Goddess is watching over us...forever.

The warrior emerged from the dungeon, beads of sweat running down his forehead. As he wiped them from his eyes, he leaned upon the statue of the Goddess. "Thank you, Morrighan, my Goddess of Protection. Thank you for granting me with your blessings and life."
