An angel has one mission: to serve and to protect. An angel can do this from Heaven, but it can also be done from earth. Leaving Heaven is not looked highly upon. Interacting with the races of the Earth is perceived as unclean. It's far easier to remain lofted above them, and use your powers of telepathy to communicate, and telekinesis to move things that need to be taken care of. Angels are removed from human feelings and thoughts. Rather, they are seen as divine beings. They know only obedience.

But after centuries of interacting with the living, feeling races of the world one begins to think their own thoughts and have their own emotions. What of love? Anger? Friendship? Envy? Loneliness? Sorrow? Ecstasy? Joy? Fear? How come the beings above are not allowed to feel these things? Can they not know how these emotions feel?

What good is a disobedient servant? Is my purpose fulfilled if I begin to feel as the humans do? As the creatures do? As the demons do? Is this what separates us from them? Our sense of obedience and lack of empathy?
