Note: This story is completely fiction and unrelated to the game Clock Tower 3 (besides character names, of course). There are absolutely no spoilers ahead, it is just a "prequel" that I made up myself.

Tediously opening her eyes after hearing a knock on her door, Alyssa rubbed the sleep out of her eyes. "Come in..." she said sleepily. "Alyssa, it's time to wake up," prodded her mother Nancy. "You don't want to be late for your first day of your new boarding school, do you?" "Oh!" Alyssa exclaimed, nearly forgetting that she would be leaving today in order to attend school. "Thanks for waking me up, Mum. I still have some last-minute packing to do, but I'll be down for breakfast as soon as I can." "Okay, darling." As her mother shut the door, Alyssa swore that she saw a single tear falling down on her mother's right cheek.

"And that's the last of it!" Wiping some sweat off of her forehead, Alyssa glanced down at everything in her suitcase. It contained everything that she would need for the next two years while attending classes in Newcastle, Britain - clothing, toiletries, some of her absolute favorite books, even her favorite stuffed bunny that had been given to her for her first birthday. Dragging the suitcase down the stairs to eat breakfast and finally part with her mother, a flashback containing her dad popped into her head, causing Alyssa to freak out and trip. Luckily, was caught by a mysterious looking man, dressed all in black, that was walking back upstairs. For a minute, Alyssa was frightened; mostly from the shock of the flashback, but also because of the fact that she was being held up by a man she didn't know. At that exact moment, Alyssa came to her senses and quickly realized that he must be one of the boarders living in the house. "Are you alright, miss?!" exclaimed the man, obviously concerned about her well-being. "I...I'm fine," stuttered Alyssa. "Thank you very much for saving me. I guess I was still a bit tired, that's all." Alyssa played it off that she was just a clumsy girl, and that nothing was wrong. The doubt on the man's face was undeniable, but he seemed to take her word, as he simply nodded at her and continued his walk up the stairs.

A strong scent of waffles lingered around the dining room. Gently setting down the suitcase, Alyssa stepped in the kitchen to see if her mother needed help with anything. "Alyssa?" asked Nancy. "Yes Mum, it's me." "Oh, thank goodness! Your school just called, and they claimed that since it's the first day and that you're a new student, they want you to arrive in the main hall at 8:30 AM." "What?! But that leaves me with only 30 minutes, Mum. And didn't you say yourself that the ride there would take about 25 minutes?" "Yes...I'm really sorry sweetheart, but we need to leave now to avoid getting in trouble with the faculty. However, the good news is that your school also told me that they're having breakfast at 8:45, so you won't be missing out on a meal." Nancy grinned at Alyssa, knowing that having breakfast was the least of her worries at the moment. "It can't be helped, I guess," sighed Alyssa.

Arriving at exactly 8:26 AM, tears started to well in the eyes of both Alyssa and Nancy. "Oh Mum, I'm going to be away from you for two whole years!" Embracing her daughter in a tight hug, Nancy tried not to sob while she was speaking. "You can always feel free to come home during breaks. Write to me and call me, too. Remember that Mummy loves you, and she always will." Stepping back, Alyssa attempted a weak smile as to not make her mother worry more than she already was. "Of course I'll communicate with you as much as I can! In fact, I'll be sure to call you as soon as I get to my room. Well, this is it. Goodbye, Mummy." After squeezing her mother's hand one last time, Alyssa tightened her grip on her suitcase and quickly walked to the main hall of the school.

The elegant Ms. Esther who ran the school was about to pair up partners during the 8:45 breakfast. After breakfast, the girls were to immediately report to the assigned rooms and get to know their roommate while setting up their things. With butterflies in her stomach, Alyssa tried to eat as much of the delicious food as she could before breakfast was over. The girls were only given 15 minutes to eat, and Alyssa was starving! "Alright girls, continue to eat but listen very closely as it is now time to announce your room numbers and roommates." Ms. Esther had to adjust her glasses before continuing. "Room 408; Christina W. and Stacy P., room 409; Amanda R. and Kelsey M., room 410; Kristen G. and Alyssa H., and finally room 411; Selena C. and Mary S."

"Kristen?" "Alyssa?" "Good, we got the right room!" exclaimed both of the girls, laughing. The girls became friends almost immediately. During the next few hours, the two of them idly chatted about cute celebrities, current fashion, and books while setting up their clothes and other nicknacks. "I'm going to go get some water from the water fountain in the dining hall. Would you like anything?" asked Kristen politely. "No thank you. I'm beat from setting up the room, I think I'll just lay down for a bit." "Alright then, see you in a few." "Yup." While in the dining hall, Ms. Esther came up to Kristen. "If I'm not mistaken, you're Kristen Garth, am I correct?" "Yes ma'am." "And your roommate is Alyssa Hamilton?" "Yes ma'am." "Excellent. When you go back to your room, could you please alert Alyssa that her mother is on the phone? I'd really appreciate it." "Of course, ma'am." "Thank you very much." Kristen picked up her pace, got her water, and nearly ran back to the room. Showing up breathless, Alyssa was a bit worried. "Are you alright?" "Huh? Oh, yeah, there's nothing wrong with me. Ms. Esther asked me to tell you that your mother is on the phone waiting for you, though!" "Ah! I forgot that I told her that I'd call her as soon as I got my room assigned to me; she must be furious at me!" Dashing down to the parlor, Alyssa expected a simple chat with her mother.

Little did Alyssa know that this phone call would change her life forever...
